Canon EOS R Replacement In The Pipeline? (won’t be the R Mark II, though)

Canon EOS R With Aps-c

Is Canon readying the release of the replacement for the original EOS R? A new rumor suggests so.

Canon might release the replacement for the EOS R towards the end of 2022 or early 2023, according to the rumor. This EOS R replacement “will sit below” the EOS R6 ad will not be a new version of Canon’s entry level full-frame model, the EOS RP. The previously rumored “ $899 full-frame R series camera” is now said to have disappeared because of the usual supply chain issues.

Stay tuned.

Is The Canon EOS R100 The Next MILC Canon Will Announce?

In June we reported that Canon might release a more entry level mirrorless camera with RF mount, the Canon EOS R100. It seems our rumor got a confirmation. These are the specs we were told and reported back in June:

  • 24.2 million pixel APS-C CMOS sensor
  • 4k 30p 8bit
  • There is no HDR PQ mode like the EOS R10
  • 14fps continuous shooting speed
  • 3.0-inch 1.04 million dot vari-angle monitor
  • Scheduled to be released Q1 or Q2 2023

Although the source of the rumor is not mentioning the “EOS R100” moniker, it might well be this camera. The source of the rumor states:

Canon’s next APS-C camera will be a small form factor “vlogger”, which we’re told will be close to the Canon EOS M6 Mark II in design.

Confirmed specifications are still relatively unreliable, but you can be sure that it will shoot 4K at 60fps and that there will likely be a 120fps mode.

[…] been told that the camera will use a different kind of vari-angle LCD screen.

That’s all for the time being. We are rather confident that the rumor refers to the same camera we reported in June, the Canon EOS R100. Time will tell.

Any idea?

Canon EOS C200 Mark II Set To Get Released In 2023 (with switchable EF/RF mount)?

Cinema EOS C200

Canon might release a replacement for the Canon EOS C200 soon, i.e. next year.

Latest murmurings have it that Canon might release the Canon EOS C200 Mark II in 2023. It seems the Canon EOS C200 Mark II will have “the ability to easily switch between EF and RF mounts. We’re told that the EF mount comes off to reveal the RF mount“. A first set of specifications also leaked:

  • Same image sensor as the Cinema EOS C300 Mark III
  • Same connection ports as the Cinema EOS C300 Mark III
  • Compatible with Cinema EOS C300 Mark III and Cinema EOS C500 Mark II accessories
  • Timecode
  • SDI Terminals
  • Easily interchangable EF and RF mount
  • Same frame rates and resolution as the Cinema EOS C300 Mark III

Unfortunately, this is a long running rumor so I’d take it with a grain of salt.

Stay tuned…

Is The Canon EOS R10a Canon’s Next Mirrorless For Astrophotography (2023?)

Canon Eos Ra Astrophotography

Is Canon set to release a Canon EOS R10a camera for astrophotography? That’s suggested in a rumor we got.

The no longer available Canon EOS 60Da was the last astrophotography-dedicated camera with an APS-C sensor Canon released (in 2012). Then we got the little talked about Canon EOS Ra (released at the end of 2019 and also no longer available). It’s a mistery to me why the EOS Ra was so neglected by reviewers and users.

Is the next Canon camera for astrophotography on its way? Maybe it is. The rumor we are reporting comes from a known source but there is no clear indication of a release date and some things might have got lost in translation. We consider the rumor to have some likelihood to be reliable yet recommend you apply an appropriate amount of salt. The fact that the EOS Ra has already reached end of life might be a sign that the rumor is not just a fantasy.

As for the announcement, from the message we got we understand that it will not happen in 2022. Some indications in the message point to an announcement in Q1/Q2 2023. Time will tell.

Specifications-wise you might expect the same as in the EOS R10 with the exception of the removal of low pass filters on the imaging sensor and the usual tricks to get the right wavelengths for astronomy photography.

Stay tuned.
