Will The Canon EOS 70D Be Announced On April 23?

EOS 70D

Latest EOS 70D rumors suggest an announcement on April 23 for the successor of the highly popular Canon EOS 60D  (price & specs).

It appears that Canon sent out invites for a press event on April 23, though there is nothing official yet. The only additional information we have is that the new sensor featured on the Canon Rebel SL1/EOS 100D could be featured also on the Canon EOS 70D. An announcement at the end of April is plausible.

Rumor: Canon EOS-1D C Firmware Update Problems

EOS-1D C Firmware Update

Just some days ago a screenshot of the upcoming firmware update for the Canon EOS-1D C showed up. We reported that the firmware update is undergoing field-testing. I have also been told that the firmware update for the EOS-1D C is set to be released immediately after NAB 2013.

Now it appears that there are some issues with the release candidate of the firmware update. The issues are said to be related to the use of external HDMI recorders: users have reported corrupted frames when externally recording the uncompressed output signal taken from the HDMI port.

There is no exact information about when the firmware update should be released, but it is expected for late April or beginning of May.

The EOS-1D C is sold for $11,999 at the following shops: B&H and Adorama, and you can rent it here.

Next Canon EOS 7D Mark II Specification List

EOS 7D Mark II

DigitalRev published an article where they compare the Nikon D7100 to the upcoming Canon EOS 7D Mark II, the successor of the highly popular Canon EOS 7D (price & specs). While discussing the features and more of both DSLRs, they also posted a list of supposed specs of the EOS 7D Mark II taken “from various sources in the know, (a.k.a. employees working in Japan who can’t keep their mouths shut)“. The specs are a bit different from the specs we published some days ago. Here they are:

  • 24.1 megapixel APS-C sensor
  • New 61 point AutoFocus system
  • Larger 3.2” screen with 100% coverage
  • Dual DIGIC V processors
  • 10 fps continuous shooting
  • Dual Memory Card slots
  • ISO and build quality close to the 5D Mark III
  • GPS and Wi-Fi built in
  • Around US$2,200

Still sounds plausible, maybe even more than the previously reported specs.

Rumor: Possible Canon EOS 7D Mark II Specs

EOS 7D Mark II
Canon EOS 7D

Keith over at Northlight Images got some new information about the eagerly awaited Canon EOS 7D Mark II, the successor of the highly popular Canon EOS 7D (price & specs).

First of all, it appears that Canon will stick with a relatively “low” megapixel figure (21MP), and the body of the EOS 7D Mark II should be similar to the body of the EOS 7D (though it feels more rugged). And it should feature WiFi and GPS!. The murmured specs:

  • 21MP APS C
  • ISO 100-25600 (L: 50, H1 51200, H2 102400)
  • 10fps
  • Video ‘stills burst’ mode 30/60 fps
  • Full HD video with manual control
  • Single CF card slot
  • 19 AF Points all cross
  • On chip phase detect pixels for liveview and AF tracking
  • 100% viewfinder
  • Viewfinder LCD higher resolution than 7D
  • 3.2″ LCD
  • GPS, WiFi
  • Alloy body with better weather sealing over 7D

Take everything with a grain of salt. The specs are said to be of a test camera, in other words: a prototype Canon is testing. However, the shape and other physical aspects are said to be unlikely to change.

Rumor: EF 100-400mm Replacement Set To Be Released Together With Canon EOS 7D Mark II

EF 100-400mm Replacement

It is due since long, there are rumors surfacing now and then, but nothing concrete happened so far. Canon’s EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS lens (price & specs) should be replaced by a newer version of the lens. Now a new rumor showed up. The new EF 100-400mm could be announced together with the EOS 7D Mark II after summer or in early fall 2013. The 100-400mm will probably not be available along with the 7D Mark II, but it appears as if Canon thinks the 100-400 will fit well with the 7D Mark II from a marketing point of view. Oh, one last thing: the new 100-400mm will not be cheap :-)
