New Rumor Suggests EOS-1S Is The Name Of Canon’s Big Megapixel DSLR

EOS-1S is the name of Canon's big megapixel DSLR

More news about Canon’s rumored high megapixel DSLR. Most of us are quite confident that Canon will announce a high resolution DSLR by the end of October. While the few rumored specs didn’t change so far, there a new tidbits about naming and price. EOS 3D has been around for a while, now there are rumors that suggests an abandon of the “D” in the naming scheme. A new rumor suggests EOS-1S is the name of Canon’s big megapixel DSLR. The other news concerns the price, which is said to be around $9000. Looks more like a new category of DSLR than a competitor to other DSLRs.

Moreover, it’s speculated that new technology will employed for the first time in the EOS-1S. This new tech should give a superior low ISO performance of the sensor. It is still said that the new big megapixel (46 are rumored) will have the same housing as the EOS-1D X, although this will hardly be a firmware-hattrick as with the EOS-1D C.

After EOS 3D and 4D, EOS 1D-S, now I am very curios to know if EOS-1S is the name of Canon’s big megapixel DSLR. At least it sounds credible.

Hoax Or Real? An EOS 3D Shows Up On B&H’s Catalog, But Then Disappers

The people at Nine Volt made a search on B&H’s camera store, and they searched for the EOS 3D, and they got a result. The specs are those that were already rumored over the web. And the housing too: the rumors we reported were saying that the fabled EOS 3D may come in a EOS-1D X shaped body (like the one you see in the pictures).

Last night, in inadvertent search for a Canon 3D on B&H’s web site gave the below result. Clicking on the link gave an error page. This morning the search no longer produces the same result. Does B&H know something in advance about the 3D? Maybe an October announcement is really coming.

So, the question is if this is a well made hoax, or if it is real. Most dedicated sites believe it is a fake. I am not 100% sure. When asked by PetaPixel the people over at Nine Volt claimed it is not photo-shopped.

[Rumor] EOS 5D Mark II May See A Substantial Price Drop Next Week (down to $1699)

Not the usual rumor about specs and features, but about an upcoming concrete price drop for the EOS 5D Mark II. Quoting Canon Rumors, the 5D2 could go down to $1699:

I’ve been told by a couple of people that the Canon EOS 5D Mark II will see a big price drop this coming week in the USA, we should see it in other countries as well. We’re told the new price will be $1699 USD for the body until they’re all gone, which won’t take too long I don’t think.

[Rumor] More Canon High Megapixel DSLR Tidbits (1Dx derived body)

A new rumor about Canon’s high resolution DSLR (46MP are rumored) showed up at NL.

In an update to the high MP info, we’re told […] that a camera will eventually appear in a 1D X derived body, in the same way as the 1D C. The information said that the actual designation was not known, but it would essentially be a ‘1 series’. There was also a warning that there would be a long wait between any ‘preview’ and any cameras […] being annouced and subsequently shipping.

Hope this is not made using a special firmware, as Canon did with the EOS 1D-C.

[Rumor] Is Canon’s High Resolution (46MP) DSLR Around The Corner? (and three new lenses too?)

CR has more hints that Canon will soon announce a new, high resolution DSLR. The talk is about a 46MP sensor.

I’m told that the coming big megapixel camera is a very new sensor design/overhaul. The emphasis is in the dynamic range of the sensor. Performance is said to be on the level of medium format, even better than the impressive D800.

The high res cam is said to get a new naming scheme (no 3D nor something with “D”). Canon should announce it at PhotoPlus in New York City in October.

There are also new lenses that are said to show up soon. The EF 200-400 f/4L IS 1.4x is expected to be announced by Canon at PhotoPlus. Finally, two f/4 telephoto lenses are rumored to be announced in January 2013: the EF 300 f/4L IS II and the EF 400 f/4L IS.

The After Photokina Canon Rumors Round-Up (7DII, 70D, 700D and the high res cam)

EOS 3D mock-up, image credits: petapixel.com

After all the expectations and the heat of Photokina, it’s time to go back to business as usual. That means rumors, and there is a bunch of new ones to discuss.

NL has been told that you can expect to see a high megapixel DSLR that will showcased at the PhotoPlus exhibition in NY, from October 24th to 27th. Seems like the price and the performance of Nikon’s D800 is somewhat worrying Canon. The rumor suggests the following specs for the high res DSLR (which may be named EOS 3D, and may be available later next year):

  • 46.1MP
  • 5fps
  • 16bit
  • ISO: 100-12800

This is not the first time a rumor about a Canon high res DSLR shows up. We reported about time ago.

There is more, still coming from NL. And this one is no less than about a new sensor design, supposed to appear during next year. It comes bigger: this new sensor design is said to show up not just in the high res camera we discussed above, but also in the EOS 7D Mark II, EOS 70D and EOS 700D. Delays in the development of this sensors may have pushed the massive firmware upgrade for the EOS 7D.

Take rumors with a grain of salt, as usual. But be also aware that they happen to be true. When we reported the rumor about an entry level DSLR by Canon, it seemed to be rather implausible to lot of people. And then, last week, Canon announced the EOS 6D. What I want to say: a high megapixel DSLR by Canon is plausible, not just because Nikon has one. It is plausible because lots of professionals need high resolution sensors.
