Canon Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera is a Long Term Affair (but it’s coming)

Canon Full-Frame Mirrorless CameraCanon Rumor

Thanks to the source!

I have been told that Canon is indeed researching a full-frame mirrorless camera (as posted before). However, according to the source this may not be a short term project. In other words, while Canon has a FF mirrorless camera on their radar and engineers working on the challenges such a camera poses, this camera may not come in 2015. The source says we might at best see a development announcement at the end of 2015, and that this camera will most probably not hit the market before 2016.

The source told me that Canon is researching if a FF mirrorless camera “makes any sense”, given that Canon is already able to make small-sized DSLRs (like the Rebel SL1, the world’s smallest DSLR) and is further researching ways to make even smaller DSLRs. Another point that was mentioned is that Canon already delivers very good image quality with APS-C sensors, and wants to push APS-C technology further. The high ISO performance of Canon’s new APS-C flagship, the EOS 7D Mark II, tells a long story. It’s simply amazing.

To some degree this fits with the things Canon’s Masaya Maeda said in an interview a few days ago. When asked if Canon is working on a full-frame mirrorless camera, Mr. Maeda said “Uh, I can’t answer that now”.

I think a Canon full-frame mirrorless camera is coming. It’s just a matter of when we will see it.

The Timefreezers – Bullet Time Shot Using 140 Canon Rebel T3 Cameras

The Pixelist‘s Simon Byrnes is the operator of a camera rig consisting of 140 Canon Rebel T3/EOS 1100D cameras. Usually he works for some UK dance show and captures bullet-time sequences of dancers. In his spare time he decided, just of fun, to make the video above, called The Timefreezers.

Do you think you need high megapixel cams for such jobs? Think again, the Rebel T3/EOS 1100D has a 12MP sensor. I like projects and ideas like this one, especially when inexpensive gear is used. Though, buying 140 Rebel T3s would probably break most peoples bank.

There are just a few sequences where you can spot the cameras, lined up along the stage.
