[Rumor] New EOS 70D And 3D Tidbits From Japan (Update – Illustrations and Specs)

Update: Thanks to an anonymous reader we are able to show you a pic of the magazine. And some translated specs too:

Canon EOS-3D
  • 30+ megapixels, 1D-class body
  • 61-point AF system, major functions same as 1DX
  • Equipped with flash (or speedlite transmitter)
  • Perhaps equipped with the first 4K movie recording function?
  • Dual Digic5+ processors for 6 FPS
Canon EOS 70D
  • Compact Body with better AF and continuous shooting than EOS 7D
  • 22MP and DIGIC5+
  • 19-point AF
  • 6 FPS
  • Update: our reader Positron (thanks!) suggests the title is saying also:
    • Vari-angle display
    • Magnesium body
    • Photo/Video live view modes
    • AFMA

Japanese photographic magazine CAPA, well known for reliable predictions in the past, published some specifications (and illustrations) of the EOS 70D and EOS 3D (according to this post). The reported spec for the 70D are fps, Digic 5, 19 points AF system (the same as the EOS 7D?). No specs for the EOS 3D, except that it is expected to be a full-frame camera. Unfortunately no images were provided in the post.

Following the post, there should be illustrations/drawings published in CAPA. Can anyone of our Japanese readers here send me some images from the magazine? Or help translate the text? Thanks in advance!

[Gear] Canon Thinking About Powered Lenses For Videography

Canon is looking into building power zoom lenses to use for video use. In an interview given to techradar, Mr. David Parry from Canon UK said that «Power zoom would be very good to have for video, we’re looking into it – that would be quite intriguing». “power”, here, doesn’t mean a super zoom lens, but a zoom lens where the zooming movement is powered (by a motor). Not trivial, since in videography manually adjusting the zoom may introduce shaking and noise. Other features a power zoom could have, is to be able to zoom in or out after given time intervals. In other terms: the zooming operations could be programmed to be executed in an automatic fashion. Canon is actually not producing such lenses, nor do other big brands for their DSLRs. Panasonic and Olympus build such lenses for their mirrorless system cameras.

It’s not surprising that Canon has about powered zooms, given the fact that the EOS 5D Mark IIbefore, and the EOS 5D Mark III now, revolutionized/are revolutionizing the way of making films. It’s well known, for instance, that an episodes of House MD was shot using an EOS 5D Mark II.

[Rumor] More Hints For Canon Launching Mirrorless Cameras and T4i/650D In June

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

We are getting closer to two important announcements by Canon, both expected for June. CR reports news about a well specced Interchangable Lens Camera and a couple of lenses that, so the rumor, will be launched soon. No news about the mount it will have. Another, contrasting, rumor that’s reported suggests that Canon will not announce a high level mirrorless cam, but that there are plans looking in this direction. Finally, the other announcement we are expecting in June regards the next iteration of the xxxD series, everything suggests the T4i/650D, along with some lenses.

CanonWatch also got various hints about a mirrorless camera to be announced in June (here and here).

[Rumor] Latest EOS 1D-X Tidbits

The latest news about the EOS 1D-X shipping delay comes from canonrumors (click here for the previous update):

For the most part, most things were confirmed. The current cameras out there are not production models and will be returned to Canon when the production cameras hit the marketplace.

A few did mention that the end of June beginning of July is still the target date, but the quantity will be very small. I’m told a few sports photographers will be allocated the 1D X first. Retail availability in July was mentioned as being “optimistic”. August or September may be the months when big stock numbers hit the marketplace.

For the time being the EOS 1D-X can be pre-ordered at Adorama (click here), B&H (click here), Amazon US (click here).
