Canon EOS R7 Review (a great wildlife and sports camera)

canon eos r7 review canon firmware updates

The Canon EOS R7 appears to be rather popular with reviewer. Here is another Canon EOS R7 review.

At a glance:

  • 32.5MP APS-C CMOS Sensor
  • Dual Pixel CMOS AF II
  • 4K60 10-Bit Video, HDR-PQ & C-Log 3
  • 30 fps E. Shutter, 15 fps Mech. Shutter
  • 2.36m-Dot OLED EVF
  • 1.6m-Dot Vari-Angle Touchscreen LCD
  • Sensor-Shift 5-Axis Image Stabilization
  • Dual UHS-II Memory Card Slots
  • Multi-Function Shoe, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

Photography Blog posted their full Canon EOS R7 review. They gave a 4.5/5 rating and a “Highly Recommended”. From their conclusion:

The R7 combines a more affordable APS-C sensor with lots of technologies and ideas that have trickled down from higher up the full-frame food chain, most notably the superlative Dual Pixel CMOS AF II autofocus system and fast burst rates, both of which make the R7 a great wildlife and sports camera.

Add in 4K/60p video with no crop, up to 8-stops of image stabilisation and a 32.5 megapixel, high-resolution sensor, and you have a very capable all-rounder that out-performs all previous Canon APS-C cameras, either DSLRs or mirrorless, and is also a very worthy alternative to the full-frame EOS R and RP models.

Our main bugbear is not with the R7 and R10 cameras themselves, but rather the lens support, or lack of it. OK, so the EOS RF-S mount is still very much in its infancy, but it would have been nice to see Canon offering something more interesting than two slow zoom lenses from day one, even if they are very affordable.

Another Mention Of The Canon EOS R6 Mark II, And An Alleged Specs List

canon rumors canon news eos r7 mark ii canon eos rv

When we first reported, back in August, that a reliable source told the Canon EOS R6 Mark II was coming soon, we met a lot of skepticism.

Now, another source mentions that the Canon EOS R6 Mark II is coming and all the skeptics are rather confident about it. And, hey!, there is also a specification list to rant about. This one:

  • 24mp Full-frame CMOS Sensor
  • In-body stabilization (IBIS)
  • 12fps Mechanical
  • 4K 30p (no crop)
  • 4K 60p (cropped)
  • Canon Log 3/HDR PQ
  • Dual Pixel CMOS AF
  • SD/SDHC dual card slot
  • Almost same form factor as the original EOS R6

There is also something interesting here. These specs are very similar to the alleged EOS R8 specs, leaked a few days ago. So, maybe there was some confusion here, or something got lost in translation. Also, the previously mentioned EOS R6 Mark II specs mentioned a stacked sensor. We think it is likely the EOS R6 Mark II will have this sensor.

Stay tuned…

Very Unreliable Canon EOS R8 Rumor Surfaces

canon rumors canon news eos r7 mark ii canon eos rv

Here is a new Canon rumor about the Canon EOS R8, but you are advised to take it with a huge amount of salt.

Is a Canon EOS R8 on Canon’s release radar? That’s what CameraBeta claims on Weibo. Here are the alleged specifications:

  • Might be named EOS R8 (or EOS R9 or EOS R Mark II)
  • 30.3 MP CMOS sensor
  • DIGIC-X
  • 5-axis image stabilisation
  • DPCMOS AF (Dual Pixel AF)
  • 12 frames/sec
  • 4k@30p with no crop
  • 4k@60p with crop
  • SD/CFExpress dual card slot

The unreliability of the rumor starts with the name. What do you think?

Stay tuned.
