Tamron SP 35mm f/1.8 Di VC and SP 45mm f/1.8 Di VC video review

Tamron’s new primes captured a lot of attention since they were announced. For a good reason. The SP 35mm f/1.8 Di VC USD and the SP 45mm f/1.8 Di VC USD are affordable, and have weather sealing and image stabilisation. That’s a lot of bang for $599.

In the video above, photographer Dustin Abbott takes a close look at the build quality of the new Tamron primes, the SP 35mm f/1.8 Di VC USD and the SP 45mm f/1.8 Di VC USD, and compares the them with their main competitors. Dustin Abbott posted also an image gallery on his blog.

In the video below, he is examining Tamron’s claims about the lenses’ performance. Do the lenses stand up in real world shooting? Resolution, image stabilization, flare resistance, close focus performance, chromatic aberration control, and autofocus are tested.

SP 35mm f/1.8 Di VC USD and SP 45mm f/1.8 Di VC USD first impression and samples

Tamron

Thanks Albert. Popular Photography posted their impression about the new Tamron SP 35mm f/1.8 Di VC USD and SP 45mm f/1.8 Di VC USD lenses. A set of 38 sample pictures is also provided. A Canon EOS 6D was used. They say:

Focusing is generally quick, but when the lens has to cover a wide range, it can be a bit sluggish. For instance, if you’re focusing out at the horizon for a landscape and then try to quickly switch and capture something close to you, the lag might be noticeable. Overall, though, the focusing movements are very smooth.

The reviewer also noticed some chromatic aberrations. Read the review at Popular Photography.

The new Tamron primes can be pre-ordered at $599, a pretty good price if you consider that the Tamrons are weather-sealed and image-stabilised.

Canon Rumors got word that Canon may announce new tilt-shift lenses for Photokina 2014.

Both the Canon TS-E 90mm f/2.8 and TS-E 45mm f/2.8 are murmured to get replaced. And the possibility of a third tilt-shift lens (no hints here) is also in the air. The 90mm and 45mm are pretty old lenses, a replacement is not implausible. The lenses should be announced for Photokina 2014.

Some more speculation are going on about a Canon macro tilt-shift lens.
