More Low-Light comparisons: Hacked EOS 5D3 vs FS100 vs hacked GH2

Another one of those “non-scientific” tests I like so much! :-) (no kidding). This time over at EOSHD they compared the [shoplink 2431]EOS 5D Mark III[/shoplink] ($3,500) with removed OLPF vs [shoplink 4953]Sony’s FS100[/shoplink] ($5,000) vs [shoplink 4952]Panasonic’s GH2[/shoplink] ($700-800, also hacked). The test is made in an extreme (low) lights setting:

EOS 5D Mark III vs Nikon D800 Live-View Usability

Ok, it appears that the D800 has more problems than most people would like it to have. After what we already reported (and here too), it looks as if there was another little big problem. The live view of the [shoplink 4853]Nikon D800[/shoplink] seems to be rather disappointing if compared to the one featured on the [shoplink 2431]EOS 5D Mark III[/shoplink] – at least for night shots. Photographer Ron Martinsen writes about what he calls a D800 live view zoom bug:

EOS 5D Mark III vs Nikon’s D800 & D4 video mode comparison by P. Bloom

Good comparison between three different full-frame cameras used to shot video. Philip Bloom compares the Nikon D4 with the [shoplink 4853]Nikon D800[/shoplink] and the [shoplink 2431]EOS 5D Mark III[/shoplink]. It’s a 30 minutes review (conclusion at ~23:00) and it focuses on aliasing artifacts and low-light performance. Needless to say, the 5D Mark III has outstanding low-light performance and controls aliasing very good (check the 400% zooms!). The aliasing on the D800 is very bad, especially at 720p. So bad, that an additional aliasing filter was mounted on the D800’s sensor (to show how much it could be made better). On the other hand, the D800 has cleaner HDMI output and is generally sharper out of the box than the 5D Mark III. All in all the review shows once more that the 5D Mark III is a very good all-purpose camera. The video shows live-crops beside the recorded scenes (different high ISOs). Enjoy the video!

Updated EOS 5D Mark III User&Owner Manual

Looks like there is an updated version of the [shoplink 2431]EOS 5D Mark III[/shoplink] user manual (according to this forum post). Not yet clear what changed from the first version of the user guide. The PDF of the manual can be downloaded here. If someone knows what’s the difference with the previous one please let me know.

EOS 5D Mark III Twitter Traffic of the last three Months

Just for fun. The graph above shows the frequency per day of Twitter hash-tags concerning the [shoplink 2431]EOS 5D Mark III[/shoplink] during the last three months. You can see a big peak around end of February, a few days before the 5D mark III was announced. The second traffic peak happened around March 27, when the first shops started to have the 5D Mark III in stock. The graph is flat until February 28th because I started recording the traffic on this day. :-)
