Canon Patent for CN-E 70-200mm f/2.8 Lens (super 35mm, Cinema EOS)

CN-E 70-200mm f/2.8

Canon filed a patent for a CN-E 70-200mm f/2.8 Cinema lens for super 35mm sensors, i.e. for Canon’s Cinema EOS products. If this patent hits the market it will be a T2.8 lens. However, a patent does not necessarily mean such a lens will hit the market any time soon. New Canon Cinema EOS products are expected for NAB 2016.

Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II lens coming? [CW2]

EF 70-200mm F/4

Latest rumor has it Canon may be working on a new EF 70-200mm L lens. The rumor says nothing about the aperture, it may be a f/2.8 or a f/4 lens. My guess is, if the rumor is reliable, it’s an EF 70-200mm f/4L II lens that could go to market next. The Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS II was announced in 2010, the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L in 2006. Following a mere chronological order, then the EF 70-200mm f/4L II is the candidate. It’s also my tip.

Please note that this is a very vague rumor, referring to a product that will be announced somewhen in the future, which is in any case something that will happen, sooner or later. However, the rumor suggests the lens may be announced soon, possibly in November 2015.

Stay tuned…

Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS vs EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II (with 2x converter), which one is better?

Tony Northrup on YouTube compares the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM with the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM (mounted on a Canon 2x teleconverter).

Which is better? If you get the Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8 L IS II lens and add the Canon 2X III teleconverter, you’ll be able to use the 70-200 at f/2.8 when you need to and two stops more light (and background blur) in that range than you can with the 100-400 II. When you need the extra reach, you can add the teleconverter and jump to 140-400mm f/5.6. The total cost is pretty similar, so which is better? Will the teleconverter make the 70-200 noticeably less sharp at 400mm?

Watch the video review to learn how the two lenses compare.
