Bad news for whom ordered the Canon EOS R3. Canon released a statement about the delays in shipping.

It might “more than half a year to deliver when you place a new order” for a Canon EOS R3. That’s sucks. Here is Canon’s statement:

Apology and guidance regarding the supply status of products

Updated: December 3, 2021

Thank you for your continued patronage of Canon products.

Currently, we have received orders for each of the following products in excess of expectations, and due to the impact of global parts supply, delivery delays are occurring. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to our customers and business partners.
The products are scheduled to be shipped one by one, but it is expected that it will take a lot of time for the new camera body EOS R3 and RF lens RF14-35mm F4 L IS USM.
We sincerely apologize for the long wait for our long-awaited customers. We will continue to take measures to ensure a stable supply of products so that we can deliver our products as soon as possible. Thank you kindly look forward for your understanding.

Canon Makes The EOS R3 Sensor – Do They?

Remember the discussion about who manufactures the imaging sensor of the Canon EOS R3? At the end it looked like it was Canon to make it. But look at this.

Don’t get me wrong: I think Canon makes the sensor (and I also think it is not that important who does). However, if you search for Canon EOS R3 on specialized site Tech Insights, you’ll get a neat table with all the components and who manufactures them. And here it comes: they do not list Canon (or another brand) in the column where manufacturer should be listed. It’s just empty. Look at the image below.

Remind that Canon itself stated that they make the imaging sensor of the Canon EOS R3. So, does the fact that Tech Insight does not list a manufacturer mean something? Some of the EOS R3 components are indeed made by Sony, as can be seen in the results table at Tech Insights.

DPReview added the Canon EOS R3 to their studio scene tool. You can now analyze the image quality of Canon’s first stacked CMOS sensor and compare it to other imaging sensors.

Canon released a statement where they apologies for the upcoming delay in shipping the Canon EOS R3. And the say it will start sales on November 27, 2021.

Sounds conflicting, isn’t it? From the machine translated text below: “the camera body EOS R3 and RF lens RF14-35mm F4 L IS USM announced this year are expected to take a lot of time“. In our interpretation that means that not all EOS R3 order can be fulfilled in the expected time. Sales of the EOS R3 will start on November 27, 2021, according to asobinet.com. Guess it’s first in, first out, with a lot of orders on backorder.
