Canon UK inspires tomorrow’s creative minds with Creative Media Camp

United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, 11 August 2016 – Canon UK, a leader in imaging solutions, today announced ‘3 Steps’ as the winning team of Creative Media Camp – a summer camp, aimed at inspiring young people’s creativity. The initiative was run by The Essex Collaborative Outreach Network in partnership with the Ideas Foundation and Canon.

Twenty students took part in the programme at South Essex College, which ran from 1-5 August. Students attended workshops, led by industry mentors and university academics, to help them learn about courses and careers in the creative industries. The participants worked in teams to answer a brief set by Canon, related to storytelling around travel, fashion or sport. The purpose of the programme was to work collaboratively with companies to promote the creative industry as a place to work, to inspire young people to become more creative and offer a space for ideas and knowledge sharing.

The winning team told the story of an alien’s unplanned visit to Earth which was executed through an assortment of the graphic, video and photography skills developed during the Creative Media Camp.

Surrie Everett-Pascoe, Canon UK’s Sustainability and Management Systems Manager, said, “Creative Media Camp is a really exciting and important programme for Canon to be involved in. It is a great way for students to gain tools and real work experience, as well as mentorship from some of the best professionals in the creative industry. This helps Canon’s aim to continue supporting young and talented people to reach their full potential, which sits in tandem with our company ethos, Kyosei, living and working together for the common good.”

The finals were held at the Open experience centre at Canon Europe’s office in Stockley Park, London. The winning team was announced by the judging panel which included: Heather MacRae, Managing Director, Ideas Foundation, Jo Taylor, Corporate & Marketing, Communications Manager, South Essex College and Kishan Koriya, Corporate & Marketing Communications, Canon EMEA.

Each member of the winning team received a prize worth £100 from a selection of Canon’s products.
