Is Canon Working On A Global Shutter For A 2.5K Video DSLR?

Global Shutter

Canon Rumors reports a new, interesting rumor. It appears that people working in the video domain is selling their gear because they are looking forward to a global shutter technology that’s able to deliver 2.5k video footage. No information about the DSLR that might employ the technology.

This would be a great step forward for Canon’s commitment to the film-making industry. We know that Canon is heavily pushing video in their DSLR line-up, the Canon EOS 70D‘s Dual Pixel Auto-Focus being the latest, great innovation in this area. This trend started with the EOS 5D Mark II, got almost mature with the EOS 5D Mark III, and we will see more advancements in the next years. Not to mention where Magic Lantern is able to push your Canon DSLR.

This rumor is sort of new. Does it have a connection with the murmured hybrid viewfinder enabled DSLR? Maybe. I think the rumor is plausible, given Canon’s confirmed commitment to the video world. However, take it with a grain of salt (as usual). Canon is secretive and conservative about their technologies and developments, but you should never forget that they have the knowledge to innovate, the labs to experiment, and the facilities to produce all the rumored tech that has been reported in the last year.
