Canon EOS 1D X ready for pre-order

Right now B&H told me that they have the Canon EOS 1D X ready for pre-order (click here). Price is $6,799 and it will start shipping by the end of April.

EDIT: Adorama is also accepting pre-orders for the 1D X (click here)

CPN (Canon Professional Network) has a good article about Frits van Eldik shooting an F1 event with a EOS 1D X. Have a look here to read about the technical specifications of Canon’s next flagship, or read this to get more insight. Canon’s 1D X page is still a work in progress (no manual for download yet), but for sure worth to have a look.

The guys over at techradar (video above) have a hands-on review with lots of details (click here to read). Another hands-on os provided by imaging-resource. And, hey!, even Wikipedia has an entry for the 1D X :-).

Maintenance notice

Dear Readers,

this was a weekend spent in maintenance and tweaking of the site. While most of the work was targeted to things that are going on behind the scenes (for instance: CanonWatch is now optimized for all major smart phones), I also introduced some new functionalities, like the box on the right column where you can register and login.

But there is another feature I built into CanonWatch, and that I hope you will enjoy and find useful. You can see the latest 20 pics shot with a  as they show up on Flickr, with a lot of information for each picture. The page (click here) can be accessed using the link in the “PicDroid”-box in the right column. As soon as the 5D Mark III will be available, I will make a similar page for this camera.

Thanks for your support!

Is Canon unsure about the G1 X’s Sensor Size?

I have to say that I am really happy to have readers that are curious and aware about what is going on. And I am glad that I am not the only one who sometimes has a glitch when writing about stuff. Ok, I want to tell you a funny story.

Lets first have a look to the following Canon ad that showed up in a newspaper:

Now let’s focus on a detail of the above ad:

It seems that Canon got the difference in size among the G1 X sensor and the 43 sensors a little wrong, or at least the proportions between the two types of sensor. You can easily see that the Canon G1 X sensor looks ways larger than the sensor of the 43s. But then, the always reliable DPreview published a graphic about sensor size comparison that suggest other proportions:

EDIT: they removed the MFT sensor size lines altogether and markeded the Nikon 1 lines as MFT (thanks to potz!)

Indeed, I think DPreview’s graphic gives a more realistic picture about the difference in size. What do you think about?
And, btw, if you want to know more about the Micro Four Thirds systems have a look on my friends homepage 43rumors.com.

EDIT: check our PicDroid (click here) for the latest pics shot with a G1X and uploaded to Flickr.
