Canon Broadcast Lenses, Digital SLR Cameras and Lenses Are Top Choice Among Imaging Professionals Covering the Soccer Tournament in Brazil

Canon Follows Up on Their Strong Showing at February’s Big Game in New Jersey With Widespread Use by Imaging Professionals at the Soccer Tournament in Brazil

MELVILLE, N.Y., July 24, 2014 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, is proud to announce that Canon broadcast lenses were the most widely used broadcast lenses covering the matches of the recent Soccer Tournament in Brazil. Furthermore, the professional photographers tasked with capturing the riveting goals, ravenous fans, colorful scenery and nail-biting moments of the soccer matches utilized Canon DSLR cameras and lenses more than any other brand*.

This outstanding show of support for Canon equipment in Brazil follows Canon broadcast lenses being used extensively to broadcast The Big Game in New Jersey on February 2, 2014, as well as being the number one camera and lens choice for imaging professionals shooting from the sidelines of the game between Denver and Seattle. In support of professionals on the ground, the Canon Professional Services (CPS) team was on location at each of these sporting events, among countless others, to provide support to photographers, broadcasters and all imaging professionals.

“Canon is honored to help broadcast companies and news services bring the action of these high-profile sporting events to devoted fans across the world. It is a testament to our products and professional service and support that so many image makers at the pinnacle of their profession rely on Canon,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO, Canon U.S.A., Inc.

Throughout the soccer matches in Brazil, Canon broadcast field lenses were utilized to deliver footage of the thrilling tournament. Canon broadcast field lenses represented approximately 90 percent* share of all broadcast lenses used. Additionally, Canon broadcast lenses were used extensively to deliver The Big Game to more than 111 million television viewers.

A look to the sidelines in Brazil revealed a familiar sight to many sporting event fans — Canon EOS Digital SLR cameras, equipped with iconic white Canon telephoto EF lenses. Throughout the tournament, approximately 70 percent* of imaging professionals chose Canon DSLRs and lenses to capture and share the memorable moments of these passionate and prideful soccer matches. Much like The Big Game, in which 75 percent** of imaging professionals on the sideline of that gridiron matchup chose Canon equipment.

At each of the 12 stadiums that hosted Soccer matches in Brazil, CPS had teams of technical and professional representatives providing imaging professionals with convenient access to product support, equipment maintenance, and product loans.

Canon Mentions The Possibility Of A High-Resolution Sensor In Interview

 High-Resolution Sensor

The interview was conducted by DC.Watch (translated), and the topic are Canon’s new EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM and EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USMS lenses.

When pointed to the fact that the resolution figures of Canon’s “L” lenses are much higher than the EOS 5D Mark III’s 22MP sensor needs, the Canon executive said (machine translated):

I to higher pixel unnecessarily is the opposite, but there is also a feeling if there is a high-performance lens that matches the number of pixels (pixel pitch), and wanting to take a look at the descriptive power of its true. By ultra-wide-angle zoom image quality is good came out to the periphery, and we look forward to the advent of high-resolution model of the EOS.

Sounds like Canon is realising that customers want higher sensor resolutions on their professional bodies.

How To Make The Perfect Bullet Time Shots Using Nearly $500K Of Canon Gear (EOS-1D X)

The video was made in 2013 by Swiss Radio and TV SRF with the support of Canon Switzerland. 50 Canon EOS-1D X cameras and 50 EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM were used for Bullet Time Shots (BTS) used for the programme “Sommer-Challenge”. From the article at CPN Europe:

“We approached Canon to see if 50 cameras and lenses were available to do this shoot,” explains cameraman Reischer, who didn’t specify which DSLR he required when he first enquired. It was lucky they made the request when they did, as usually Canon does not have this number of bodies and lenses available. But in this case, there were a few days of opportunity for the shoot, before Canon’s preparations began for the World Athletics Championships in Moscow. “It was like ‘wow’. This is the top model. We were going to shoot with 50 of them – it was just crazy,” Reischer recalls. The enormity of the task, and the challenge of getting to know Canon’s flagship DSLR intimately, was dawning.

A lot of high-end photography technology in use here.

Canon Awarded Top Honors for Environmental Efforts

Canon Scores High on Two Prominent Green Business Lists

MELVILLE, N.Y., July 22, 2014 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced two prestigious green rankings that Canon has been awarded for their environmental and sustainable efforts. Canon has placed 26 out of 50 on Interbrand’s 2014 Best Global Green Brands, and 125 out of 500 onNewsweek‘s 2014 Green Rankings, placing the Company in the top 25 percent forNewsweek‘s 2014 list.

“For companies that manufacture and ship products worldwide, environmentally conscious operations are especially challenging, which is why Canon is honored to be included in both Interbrand’s Best Global Green Brands and Newsweek‘s Green Rankings,” said Joe Adachi, chairman and CEO, Canon U.S.A. “Canon is committed to the environment through our resource conservation efforts, – from research and development to sales and distribution.”

Interbrand’s Best Global Green Brands and Newsweek‘s Green Rankings are created using publicly available data. Both take a variety of factors into account from quantitative environmental performance figures like energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, to more subjective information like market perception and reputation.

Through a generation green initiative, Canon has established numerous sustainability initiatives, including an office equipment recycling program and toner cartridge recycling program that has collected approximately 240,000 tons of empty toner cartridges around the world. Canon is also among the first office equipment manufacturers to partner with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in its ENERGY STAR program and among the first manufacturers with qualifying products for a Gold rating in the new imaging equipment category of EPEAT®, the global registry for greener electronics. In February 2014, Canon Americas Headquarters in Melville, N.Y. was awarded LEED® Gold certification and is the largest commercial property on Long Island to accomplish this milestone.

Created in collaboration with Deloitte Consulting, this list examines the 100 companies included on Interbrand’s annual Best Global Brands report. Each qualifying brand undergoes an assessment of both market perception and actual environmental performance across six pillars – governance, stakeholder engagement, operations, supply chain, transportation and logistics, and products and services. Interbrand also conducts a survey of more than 10,000 consumers worldwide to gauge consumer perceptions of companies’ green activities and reputation.

Compiled by the magazine’s editorial staff through insightful data from industry experts and the research firm Corporate Knights Capital, this list evaluates the 500 largest global publicly-traded companies on their environment performance including energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption and use of recycling. Other factors include the company’s reputation for sustainability, the link between executive compensation and achievement of environmental performance targets, and the presence of a sustainability committee.
