Egami (translated) spotted Canon patents for three lenses that could been thought for the EOS M mirrorless system, a 5omm f/1.8, 50mm f/1.4 and 35mm f/1.4. Egami’s analysis of the patents suggests this interpretation, i.e. that these lenses are made for an APS-C mirrorless system. Sound exciting, having such primes for the EOS M would at least allow us to think that Canon is committed to their mirrorless system. More details and specs after the break.
This could be the patent for the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L II lens. Egami (translated) spotted a patent filed by Canon that’s related to a 35mm f/1.4 lens that appears to refer to the successor of the Canon EF 35mm f 1.4L USM (price & specs) lens (released in 1998). Not the first patent for a 35mm lens, and there was a rumor that Canon was field-testing a EF 35mm f/1.4L II lens. More after the break.
There has been a rumor about a Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 IS lens surfacing last year, now Egami (translated) spotted a related patent (referring also to a 28-80 f/2.8 IS lens). This could be a very exciting lens!
Egami (translated) spotted a Canon patent for a 50mm lens with f/1.8 and image stabilization. The patent does in some way fit with a rumor regarding a new image stabilized Canon 50mm lens said to be announced in 2013. Another Canon patent for a 50mm lens I reported about can be seen here. Canon has three 50mm lenses in their line-up: the EF 50mm f/1.2L, EF 50mm f/1.4 and the inexpensive EF 50mm f/1.8. The lens described in the patent will not replace the 50mm f/1.2L nor the 50mm f/1.8, most probably it will replace the 50mm f/1.4 (I don’t think Canon will add a fourth 50mm lens to their line-up).
