Canon patent for 11mm F4L USM lens

11mm

This could be a very cool lens, if the optical formula described in this Canon patent will ever go into production. Canon filed a patent for a 11mm F4L USM lens. The optical formula appears to refer to a relatively small lens with good control of optical distortions.

Canon patent for 30mm F2.8 DO lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras

30mm

Another Canon patent for an optical formula that appears to point to a full-frame mirrorless camera, a 30mm F2.8 DO lens. “DO” stays for diffractive optics. I tell you folks, Canon’s full-frame mirrorless camera is coming!

Canon EF 1000mm F5.6 DO lens coming, filed patent suggests [CW3]

ef 1000mmm F5.6

Among all the patents filed by Canon, this may be one that actually could hit the market (in my opinion). The patent refers to an EF 1000mm F5.6 DO (Diffractive Optics) lens. Would be perfect for the upcoming Olympic Games :-) Who knows…maybe Canon is already field-testing this lens.

Canon patent for EF-M 9-17mm f/3.5-5 lens (EOS M system)

canon patent

Yet another Canon patent for an EF-M lens (EOS M system). This time we have an optical formula for an EF-M 9-17mm f/3.5-5 lens. According to the patent literature, f/5 at the wide end was achieved by using high quality glass. The first “L”-grade lens for the EOS M?

It definitely looks like Canon is investing pretty much in the EOS M system, at least if you count all the filed patents. We expect at least one new EOS M model this year, maybe two with one being a full-frame mirrorless camera.

Canon patent for EF 28-560mm f/2.8-5.6 lens

canon patent

Another Canon patent for an interesting optical for mule, a EF 28-560mm f/2.8-5.6 lens for full-frame sensors. That’s a 20x zoom, and I can’t help but have to think about some compact, mirrorless full-frame camera :-)

Canon patent for EF-M 15-50mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens

canon patent

A Canon patent for what appears to be another possible kit lens for the EOS M system, a EF-M 15-50mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens.

I do not think Canon will release another kit lens for the EOS M, after the EF-M 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM and the newer EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM. Guess this is one of the many patents that never will hit the market.
