Photography Blog posted their first impression on the brand new Canon EOS R.

Their early verdict:

The EOS R is a promising first step into Canon’s future, mixing together DSLR-design with some new features to create a unique take on what a mirrorless camera should be like. It’s a world away from the early days of mirrorless, where the emphasis was very much on creating the smallest camera and lens system possible. Instead Canon have take the opportunity to make a reasonably sized camera with a mount that can support some seriously fast glass, albeit lenses that are just as big as their DSLR equivalents. A few Canon EOS R size comparison pictures courtesy of ApoTelyt’s CAM-parator app.

Nikon’s Z6 and Canon’s EOS R seem to have the same size (the EOS R looks a bit bulkier, though), while the Sony A7 III is noticeably smaller than the Canon EOS R

Dustin Abbott completed his comprehensive review of the Sigma 70mm f/2.8 Macro ART lens.

From the conclusion;

[…] the Sigma 70mm f/2.8 Macro | ART is a somewhat quirky lens.  It deviates from the path established for the ART series on a number of levels, and also deviates from the modern standard of what a macro lens should have (Image Stabilization, Internal Focus, etc…)  The one area where it is very much a Sigma ART lens is in the optical performance, where it delivers as good a performance as I’ve seen from a macro lens outside of bokeh that is a little busy in some situations.  I’m less impressed by the decision about the focus motor, at least on DSLRs […]

Dustin Abbott’s review comes with a huge set of sample pictures and analyses all aspects of the Sigma 70mm f/2.8 Macro ART. For those who prefer to watch, the video review below tells everything.

Samyang MF 85mm f/1.8 ED UMC CS lens review (fantastic quality, ePhotozine)

Samyang MF 85mm F/1.8

Samyang MF 85mm f/1.8 ED UMC CS at a glance:

  • F-M-Mount Lens/APS-C Format
  • 136mm (35mm Equivalent)
  • Aperture Range: f/1.8 to f/22
  • One Extra-Low Dispersion Element
  • One High Refractive Index Element
  • Ultra Multi-Coating
  • Manual Focus Design
  • Non-Rotating 62mm Filter Mount
  • Rounded 9-Blade Diaphragm

Samyang just announced the Samyang MF 85mm f/1.8 ED UMC CS for mirrorless systems, Canon EOS M included.

ePhotozine tested and reviewed the Samyang MF 85mm f/1.8 ED UMC CS (although not on a Canon EOS M camera, but on a Sony A5100).

From the conclusion:

There are so many excellent lenses, and the Samyang MF 85mm f/1.8 ED UMC CS is another one. Fantastic quality, very nicely made, excellent price, compact and light… the only thing not to like is that focusing can be a bit tricky. However, to be fair, this depends also on the actual camera used. If used on a tripod with careful, magnified focusing, then the results possible from this lens are exemplary.

The Samyang (aka Rokinon) MF 85mm f/1.8 ED UMC CS sells for $399 and can be pre-ordered at B&H Photo and Adorama
