Is This The Price Of The Upcoming Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens ($1345)?

Sigma 50mm f/1.4

I appears the price for the new Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art, the lens Sigma wants to compete with the Zeiss Otus 55mm, may have been leaked.

Australian photo retailer CameraPro has the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art available for pre-order at AU$ 1,499, about US$ 1,345. Note that CameraPro states that the “pricing listed is anticipation only, where final price and ETA are to be announced”.

If this price tag is reliable, then the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 will have a higher price tag than expected by most. However, a price tag that is still affordable, especially if you consider who Sigma wants to compete with.

Sigma Rumor: 16-20mm f/2 DG Lens Set To Come Soon?

Sigma Rumor

Sigma’s latest lens, the Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM

We have been told (thanks) that Sigma will announce a 16-20mm f/2 DG lens for full-frame DSLRs in 2014, most probably before Summer 2014. The lens will be part of the “Art” line-up. For the time being I do not know if the lens will have image stabilization (optical stabilization, OS, in the Sigma world), but I guess it will not. The source that told me about the lens is known to me and I give this rumor a 50-60% chance (at least) to be true.

There have been rumors about Sigma lenses in the past, but a 16-20mm f/2 was never mentioned. Exiting news, I think, and I really hope Sigma will continue to deliver the outstanding optical performance seen on the 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM , 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM and 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM lenses.

Go on Sigma!

Sigma 135mm f/2 DG OS Coming For Photokina 2014?

Rumors have word that Sigma will announce a new prime lens next year, a 135mm f/2 DG OS, part of the “Art” line-up. The lens is said to be announced at Photokina, September 2014. Moreover, it appears that Sigma will  release more high performing lenses next year.

I hope the rumor is true. Sigma released some amazing lenses recently (35mm f/1.4 DG HSM , 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM and 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM) and we all hope there will be more lenses with such excellent optical properties.

More Sigma “Sport” Lenses Coming in 2014

It appears that Sigma will enjoy us with more lenses based on their new technology. Various lenses that will be part of the “Sport” line-up may be announced. The rumor fits with the rumored list of next Sigma lenses we posted aome time ago.

The rumor has word that Sigma will announce first a 300mm f/2.8 OS and a 400mm f/2.8 OS lens. These lenses may be undergone field-testing during the Winter Olympic Games. The other lenses Sigma is said to work on are a 500mm and a 800mm lens.

I can just hope Sigma will again be able to pack all the engineering wizardry they put into the awesome 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM and 35mm f1.4 DG lenses.

Photorumors compiled a list of the lenses that Sigma could possibly announce in 2014. Take everything with a grain of salt, though there will be new Sigma lenses next year. The list:

  • Sigma 24-105mm f/4 OS
  • Sigma 24-70mm f/2 OS HSM
  • Sigma 300mm f/2.8 OS
  • Sigma 400mm f/2.8 OS
  • Sigma 500mm f/4 OS
  • Sigma 600mm f/4 OS
  • Sigma 135mm f/1.8 DG OS
  • Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG
  • a new Sigma 50mm f/1.4 lens is also a possibility

Would be great if Sigma can deliver more outstanding lenses like the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM (price & specs). Let’s hope and wait. In the meantime you could like to read about the interview with the engineer that designed the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 and 35mm f/1.4 lenses.

Moreover, German site Valuetech reports a rumor related to an upcoming Sig,a 24-105mm OS lens. This is a very interesting rumour. Since Canon will stop the production of the highly popular Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM (price & specs) lens, it makes sense for Sigma to step in. Valuetech writes:

We’ve been told that lens manufacturer Sigma is close to announce a 24-105mm f/4 lens for fullframe DSLRs (the announcement could been expected some time in 2013), which might be a good replacement for the EoL Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS. Right now it’s not for sure if we’ll see an optical image stabilizer (OS) in it as well as if it will become a C-, A- or S-series lens regarding to Sigmas very own nomenclature.
