NAB 2012 Canon rumors round-up

So, we are close to the beginning of NAB 2012, and rumors bout what Canon could and/or will announce are getting hotter.

It’s almost sure that Canon will announce “something new”, but what will it be? Most rumor-mills take for granted that Canon will announce a 4K DSLR. But that’s not all we can probably expect. See what I collected strolling around the Internet and evaluating information that was sent to me.

There will be a C500 announced at NAB. It will have 4K at 120fps, EOS RAW via 3G HD-SDI, at 60fps EOS RAW is 12 bit. The C500 will also deliver 1080p, 2k and Quad HD. Price will be around $25,000. This gear is clearly intended to comete with RED’s Epic. A word about EOS RAW:It’s rumored that Canon developed this new raw recording format. EOS RAW should be capable to do 12bit 4K.

Next, most probably Canon will eventually announce the long awaited (and much discussed) 4K DLSR (Canon Cinema EOS 1D). It will have a full-frame sensor (with higher megapixel resolution than the 1D X) and feature ALL-I, IPB and MJPEG 4K codecs. Moreover, it’s said to have a Super 35mm crop mode (similar to Nikon D800’s DX cropmode) and to be compatible with cinema lenses. Price will be around $10,000.

The new cinema lenses are a 15.5-47mm T2.2 and a 30-105mm T2.2. Price will be around $15,000.
