EDIT: I made a big typo mess here, it’s the Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM not the Canon 11-24mm. Apologies; this happens when you are in a hurry.

DPReview posted a set of sample pics shot with Sigma’s 24mm f/1.4 lens.

Yesterday Signa announced the price of the new Sigma 24mm f/1.4 lens ($849). Pre-orders at BHphoto and Adorama. Once again Sigma made an interesting lens at an affordable price. I am pretty sure this lens will perform on the same level as the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art, Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art, and the awesome Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM lenses.

Canon EOS 5DS, EOS M3, EF 11-24mm f/4L Price and Availability in Italy (and Europe)

Thanks! I got word that Italian Canon resellers have a prospected schedule and price tag for some of Canon’s latest gear:

  • EF 11-24mm f/4L availability end of February 2015, price €3,300
  • EOS M3 kit with EF-M 18-55mm IS STM availability in May 2015, price €770
  • EOS 5DS and 5DS R availability in May 2015, price €3,800 and €4000, respectively

This schedule and the prices are indicative for the rest of Europe, possibly Germany and UK will start shipping earlier. The EOS M3 is already available for pre-order at Amazon UK for £599 and Amazon DE for €749. You can also pre-order the M3 at at DigitalRev (ships internationally). 

Canon Patent for new Auto-Focus System for Mirrorless Cameras and DSLR with Translucent Mirror

Egami (translated) spotted a patent filed by Canon that appears to refer to a new auto-focus technology to implement in mirrorless cameras and in cameras with a translucent mirror (like the Sony A99).

The Connect Station CS100 and the new Rebels – Canon’s Idea of Connectivity

Canon is Big Nikon is Small, Canon EOS 5DS Marketing Campaign Suggests

This is just for fun. However, it seems Canon is making fancy coffee mugs for the Canon EOS 5DS marketing campaign. Well, the images speak for themselves :-) The “small” 36MP are a clear reference to Nikon’s D800 series.

With a 50MP sensor Canon is again the resolution champ in the full-frame domain (interview with the man behind the 5DS). For a round-up of hands-on reviews see after the next pic.
