Digital Life Innnovator posted a set of EOS M3 sample pics. I think these are the first independent M3 sample pics that have been published. Please note: the samples were shot with a pre-production model of the EOS M3.

The pics were shot at a blogger convention where Canon presented their latest products. Head over to Digital Life Innovator for the samples and product shots of the M3, 5DS, the new Rebels, and the 11-24mm f/4L. The sample pics can be viewed at a bigger resolution but are resized to 80%, various lenses have been used.

Digital Life Innovator posted also pics of the presentation Canon made for the EOS M3. Click here to see the slides (in Japanese, never the less interesting).

The EOS M3 (announcement & more) will not be available in the US, only in EU and Asia. The EOS M3 will start shipping April 2015 with a RSP of £599.99/€769.99. Hands-on at DpreviewAmateur Photographerspecification sheetSample pics here (scroll down). (CW1) Canon Working on a f/1.2 Lens for the EOS M System? Update: it’s the EF 50mm f/1.2, possibly

Update: thanks to reader “lw” we learn that most probably the [shoplink 177]EF 50mm f/1.2L[/shoplink] was used with the EF-EF-M adapter. The couple in the video above have a blog were they write about the video:

[…] we’ve tried the 50mm f/1.2 lens on the EOS M3 camera while filming and we were so impressed with the results; super crisp quality with a beautiful and dreamy depth of field.

I downgrade the rumor to CW2 CW1.

Original post

In one of the promotional videos posted yesterday there is an interesting little fact. Start the video above and jump to mark 2:20. You’ll see a “f/1.2” settings on the EOS M3’s display (announcement). So, either they were shooting using the EF-EF-M adapter (no mention in the video, and you can’t spot the adapter), or Canon has a fast and probably prime lens for the EOS M in the works.

We had some rumors in the past about possible prime lenses coming for the EOS M system. What do you think?

Chuck Westfall About the Canon EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R (no DR improvement over 5D3, sensor is made by Canon)

The video above is an interview DPReview conducted with Canon’s Chuck Westfall, the talk is about the new Canon EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R. In the interview Mr. Westfall says the 5DS and 5DS R have no improvement in dynamic range over the EOS 5D Mark III.

There is more. Chuck Westfall was also interviewed by the folks at Shutterbug. With the EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R…

[Canon is] actually competing against the medium format camera backs but in the 35mm format this is much smaller, more compact and with a greater access to lenses

Asked who made the sensor in Canon’s high resolution DSLRs:

Westfall said the 50.6MP CMOS sensors in the 5DS and 5DS R are developed and produced by Canon. When asked whether they were created in collaboration with Sony as some rumors indicated, Westfall responded by saying: “Absolutely not. The sensors were developed completely in-house, by Canon

This should put an end to the rumor suggesting Canon may use sensors manufactured by Sony on their future DSLR.
