Newsshooter‘s Chuck Fadely had the chance (at PhotoPlus 2013) to get his hands on the recently announced Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM lens. The lens has a price tag of $899 and is already available for pre-order: Adorama or B&H.
We got word (thanks) that Canon could soon (by October 31st) release a new firmware update for the Canon EOS 5D Mark III. The update should mainly address an issue with the SpeedLite 600EX-RT not firing several times when you use manual setings and IR on. The update will be available here.

Fake EOS 7D Mark II (mock-up)
We got a first candidate date (thanks) for the announcement of the Canon EOS 7D Mark II, and some specs confirmation too. According to our source Canon is set to announce the successor of the EOS 7D in March 2014. We didn’t get an exact date, but according to our source it should happen somewhen in the mid of March.
No concrete news about the specs. Rumors still suggest Canon is prototyping two different sensor (though both will have Dual Pixel AF), a 20MP and a 24MP sensor. Which one will do it into the 7D Mark II is still uncertain. However, all rumours suggest the 7D Mark II will not have the same sensor as the Canon EOS 70D. That looks a bit weird to me. If the 7D Mark II gets a 20MP sensor I can hardly figure out why and how it should be a different sensor than the one featured on the 70D. Maybe different aliasing filters or other very small differences in the engineering of the sensor.

You all know the following situation: difficult light settings confuse the white-balance of your camera and you’ve to use a grey card to calibrate the WB. Not a big issue but prone to errors and sometimes uncomfortable (think rain). Another way to get the WB right in such settings is to use a filter on top of your lens that acts as a neutral diffusion filter that passes 18% of the ambient light to the cameras light meter. What you have is a grey frame you can comfortably use to calibrate the WB.
