This could be the patent for the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L II lens. Egami (translated) spotted a patent filed by Canon that’s related to a 35mm f/1.4 lens that appears to refer to the successor of the Canon EF 35mm f 1.4L USM (price & specs) lens (released in 1998). Not the first patent for a 35mm lens, and there was a rumor that Canon was field-testing a EF 35mm f/1.4L II lens. More after the break.
It’s weird that the Canon EOS 7D doesn’t see more deals now that the EOS 70D has hit shelves. There is little that the EOS 7D could outperform on the Canon EOS 70D, feature wise. Still the EOS 7D is better build and probably better weather sealed, has 8fps vs the 7fps of the EOS 70D, more controls, more customisation possibilities. The 7D and the 70D are so close that it’s hard to recommend the former over the latter. Even if the 7D still is a competitive, professional DSLR, the EOS 70D has a innovative sensor, the highly praised Dual Pixel CMOS Auto-Focus, and 2MP more resolution.
However, the EOS 7D with the EF-S 18-135mm IS lens is usually sold for $1799, so I thought someone might be interested to know that Top Rated Plus eBay seller getitidigital (99.5% positive ratings) has the 7D kit with the 18-135mm for . USA model & warranty, free shipping.
dpreview added the AF test page to their work-in-progress review of the Canon EOS 70D. The Dual Pixel CMOS AF is up to expectation, it works so good that “the Dual Pixel AF system outperforms the conventional autofocus system – it’s more consistent, shot-to-shot and it’s more accurate, in terms of where it focuses“, according to dpreview.
