DPReview reviewed the new Canon EOS 90D, Canon’s latest APS-C DSLR.

They gave the EOS 90D a scoring of 85%. Here are some excerpts from their conclusion:

Canon’s latest enthusiast APS-C DSLR represents a solid leap forward in image quality for this line. The 90D, along with its mirrorless near-twin the EOS M6 II, both share what is at the time of publishing, the highest resolution APS-C sensor on the market. It offers outstanding Raw detail capture and noise performance, up there with other class-leaders like the Sony a6400. Canon JPEG color continues to be a favorite, but Canon’s default JPEG noise reduction continues to be overly aggressive – fortunately, this can be dialed down.

[…] Dual Pixel CMOS autofocus in live view […] is excellent, with great coverage and accuracy. Face and eye detect AF both work with good reliability, whether shooting stills or video.

[…] In terms of ergonomics, the 90D is excellent. Its large comfortable grip and sizable optical finder with 100% coverage are something that set it apart from its mirrorless APS-C competition. The body is also weather-sealed and well-built, with well-placed controls.

Seems Canon landed another winner here. I own the Canon EOS 80D, which happens to be my favourite camera for the time being, and to me it appears Canon managed to further improve the xxD line with the EOS 90D.

The High Res Canon EOS R Camera Most Likely Is A 2020 Affair (and what else to expect)

It seems the announcement of the next Canon EOS R model, i.e. the anticipated high resolution EOS R, will happen in 2020.

In the past our sources always suggested Canon might announce the high megapixel Canon EOS R (all rumors) toward the end of 2019. We have now reasons to believe the announcement will happen within the first half of 2020, maybe already in the first quarter of the year.

There are tow main photo events to look out in 2020. One is CP+, scheduled for the end of February 2020, the other is Photokina, happening in May 2020. Latest rumor suggests Canon might have an important announcement scheduled for February 11, 2020 (which happens to be before the start of CP+).

Both the high megapixel Canon EOS R (all rumors) and the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III (all rumors) can be expected to be announced in the weeks between February and May 2020, in any case before the Summer Olympics.

And what about the Canon EOS R for astrophotography that leaked recently? It’s not clear when Canon is set to announce it. But given that the leaflet and other informations already leaked it can’t be too far away. Expect more information soon.

What else to expect? There still is the Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS we are waiting for. It’s safe to assume this lens will be announced in 2019, most likely within a month. 2020 will also see a bunch of new Canon RF lenses.

If Travel Bloggers Were Honest They Would Make Videos Like This

Currently Hannah and Just Jess created a fun and hilarious video that tries to answers the question: what would travel videos look like if travel bloggers were honest?

The parody video starts with nice-to-look-at, slow-motion travel footage along with a calm voice narrating what you see, what you really see. Then things in the video change.

The rest of the video (after 3min) sees Hannah explaining why she created the parody video and underlining how she is not exempt from these travel blogger stereotypes. It’s a funny video that points out the most common settings and places we’ve seen over and over in travel photos and videos on the web.
