It seems Canon hit the mark with the Powershot G7 X Mark II. This little yet powerful compact camera featuring a 1″ sensor and a fast lens, gets remarkable reviews. DPReview‘s review is one of the more critical reviews I saw. In the conclusion they write:

Perhaps the most remarkable thing about the PowerShot G7 X Mark II is that Canon listened to its customers (and maybe some camera reviewers) and dealt with a large number of the problems that people had with its predecessor. Whether it’s something cosmetic like the new grip or noticeably better burst shooting, the G7 X II is what the original should’ve been back in 2014.

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV announcement coming last week of August 2016? [CW3]

It appears Canon is set to announce (thanks) the highly anticipated yet not leaked EOS 5D Mark IV towards the end of August. Makes sense since Photokina is happening at the end of September, and most of those in the industry believe the EOS 5D Mark IV will be on display during the show. New source but at least a plausible suggestion. The candidate dates I’ve been told are, in order of likelihood: 26 August, 22 August, and 29 August.

Update: Guess I got a bit overexcited on this. The patent literature refers to 2 optical formulas for full-frame and 2 for Powershot class of cameras. While it is possible that Canon may build such a lens for FF, an application for Powershot is much more likely. However, it’s a matter of fact that Canon works on such crazy ideas.

Canon patent for an EF 40-800mm F4.5-5.6 lens. It’s suggested this Canon patent could lead to a new EF 40-800mm F4.5-5.6 lens to be announced before the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020, and, well, I think this is entirely possible so I rate it CW2 CW3.

Prices for Canon gear set to raise by 20% in Europe after August 2016 [CW4]

This comes from a very solid source. I have been told (thanks) that prices for Canon gear in Europe will get higher after August 2016. I got no side-infos about that but according to my source it is due to the weak Euro (and Pound, both compared to the Euro). The rumor is backed up by EU and UK retailers I contacted. The expected price increase will be around 20%.
