Still Live: Canon EOS 80D killer deal, bundle with PIXMA Pro-100 Printer an 64GB card – $849

eos 80d

This is a pretty great deal! Authorised Canon retailer BuyDig on eBay (98.7% positive ratings) has the Canon EOS 80D bundled with PIXMA Pro-100 photo printer, photo paper, and a 64GB memory card on sale at $849. Compare at $1,199 for the EOS 80D alone, without printer etc

This works because BuyDig is an authorised Canon retailer, and hence you can claim $350 mail-in rebate (instructions). If you are comfortable with MIRs then this is a killer deal!

Canon patent for 50-300mm F4.5-5.6 Diffractive Optics lens for APS-C sensors

Canon patent

Canon patent for a 50-300mm F4.5-5.6 lens with diffractive optical elements. The optic formula described in the patent appears to refer to APS-C sensor (not full-frame). Hence, the lens may come either for EF-S or EF-M mount. I guess this would be the first APC-S oriented lens with diffractive optics (anyone?).

Canon participates in Earth Hour 2016 in 231 locations across 26 countries and regions

canon rumors

Canon press release:

TOKYO, April 22, 2016—Canon Inc. announced today that 231 of the Company’s offices and operating sites across 26 countries and regions participated in Earth Hour 2016, which was held in each locale from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. (local time) on March 19.

Earth Hour is a global environmental initiative organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) that began in 2007. The event encourages individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour as a statement to stop global warming and protect the global environment.

Across various locations, Canon Group companies turned off lights at offices and operating sites as well as neon signs. This year’s event started in Oceania, which is closest to the International Date Line, and moved around the world through Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas. In addition to Earth Hour, various regions carried out their own energy-saving activities. A dedicated page* within the Canon Global website provides an overview of the Company’s global Earth Hour 2016 activities.

Through technological innovation and improved management efficiency, Canon aims to realize its “Action for Green” environmental vision: a society that promotes both enriched lifestyles and the global environment. Canon strives to reduce the environmental burden throughout the entire product lifecycle—Produce, Use, Recycle—thereby creating environmental frontrunner products.

ephotozine posted their review of Canon’s new full-frame flagship, the EOS-1D X Mark II. In the conclusione they write:

The 1D X Mark II offers a wide range of 4K video recording options, as well as high-speed FullHD video, and the video capabilities of this Digital SLR are the best you will find in a consumer level interchangeable lens camera, better than most other cameras, with the ability to record full CINE resolution 4K video at 60/50fps, whilst others only offer 4K video at 30/25/24fps. The use of a built-in heat pipe allows recording up to 29 minutes and 59 seconds without the sensor over-heating. The only other full-frame camera with 4K CINE (DCI resolution) recording and high-speed continuous shooting, the Leica SL, offers 24fps 4K video and 11fps continuous shooting, making the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II the fastest shooting full-frame camera available, quicker even than the Nikon D5.

If you want, the EOS-1D X Mark II user manual can be downloaded from Canon Europe.
