Rumor: New Canon Image Stabilized Lenses to Come in 2014

Rumor
The Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II – Is Canon working on an image stabilised version of this lens?

Another bit to add to the recent Canon lens rumors (1 | 2)

The latest rumor suggests that Canon will announce the new image-stabilised, non L-grade lenses: a 50mm f/1.8 IS, 85mm f/2 IS (aperture said to be slower than f/1.8), and a 135mm IS (this one could be an L-grade lens. The 50mm and 85mm are expected to be announced in the first half of 2014.

Silent Upgrades – Internal Changes on Gear that are not Announced

What are “silent upgrades”? These are internal changes that a manufacturer may apply without announcing them. The picture above shows two copies of the EF 85mm f/1.8 lens (price & specs) – the changes are immediately visible. Roger Cicala at lenrentals.com – a guy who disassembled lots of lenses – wrote a post about this issue. Often these silent upgrades are due to a change in subassembly suppliers, just to make an example. Good read if you want to know how manufacturers operate (and why).
