Key Features

The new product is a model that inherits the concept model “EOS M” (9 January 2012), the balance of small size, light weight and high image quality equivalent to that of the digital single-lens reflex camera EOS series conventional. Evolved significantly AF performance from previous models, while equipped with a wireless LAN function anew, we are downsizing about 8% volume.
Users can in addition to fun to shooting full-fledged easily and comfortable, get the pleasure of after shooting to easily share with your friends and family a photograph by this.

Can be remarkably improved AF performance “hybrid CMOS AF II”

Over a wide area of approximately 80% vertically and horizontally of the shooting screen, we have adopted to enable the combination of the imaging surface phase difference AF and contrast AF to “hybrid CMOS AF II”. As a result, in the ranging area wider than, enables fast focusing about 2.3 times ※ 2, it is possible to realize a shooting in the composition he wanted, ability to respond to a moving subject is improved conventional models ※ 1 will.

  • ※ conventional models that have been updated to firmware Ver.2.0 more than one comparison is “EOS M”.
  • ※ 2 One-Shot AF, Live AF multi-point, use “F3.5-5.6 IS STM EF-M18-55mm”, shooting at focal length 55mm.

High image quality equivalent to that of the digital single-lens reflex camera EOS series

By the deployment of the video engine DIGIC 5 and CMOS sensor APS-C size of about 18 million pixels, and has realized the continuous shooting performance of about 4.6 frames / second highest image quality and large-sized sensor only. In addition, you can be taken by commonly used ISO sensitivity of up to ISO12800 ※ 3 (extension ISO25600), with reduced noise even in dark.

  • ※ common ISO sensitivity of 3 movie shooting is the highest ISO6400.

Built-in wireless LAN function of the Wi-Fi enabled

Smartphone from a Wi-Fi enabled, remote operation ※ 4, such as the incorporation of still images that are recorded to the memory card in the camera and taking still pictures can be done.

  • ※ The operation from 4 smartphone, dedicated application EOS Remote (free of charge) is required. EOS Remote is compatible with iOS and Android, but it does not guarantee the operation in all models.

Market trend of interchangeable lens digital camera

Sales of interchangeable lens type digital camera of 2012 (worldwide) has reached to about 18 million units of about 13% increase over the previous year. I expect have been affected by the economic downturn in China and Europe mainly in 2013, but to maintain and about 18 million units, the same level as the prior-year level. (Canon research)

  • ※ I will include both single-lens reflex Non-reflex lens that can be exchanged digitally.

Breaking News: Canon EOS M2 Specifications Leaked

Canon EOS M2

We just reported that the Canon EOS M2 is set to be announced soon. Now, a few specs have been leaked. The EOS M2 could be announced in a few days.

According to digicame-info (translated) the Canon EOS M2 will have the following specs:

– APS-C 18MP sensor
– Hybrid CMOS AF II
– AF speed is about 2.3 times the current type at one-shot AF · multi-point AF
– Video Servo AF
– Image processing engine DIGIC5
– Continuous shooting 4.6 frames / second
– ISO sensitivity up to ISO12800 (ISO25600 extended)
– The 8% reduction of body size (volume) compared with EOS M
– It is equipped with Wi-Fi
– Allows remote operation of the smartphone
– Can be transferred photos smartphone, printer, etc. iMAGE GATAWAY

Nothing to get particularly excited about, except for the size reduction and the built-in WiFi. But more than anything else: no Dual Pixel AF?? This looks to be a modest incremental evolution of the EOS M, not featuring Canon’s latest sensor and sensor technology. This appears to be the sensor of the Rebel SL1/EOS 100D.

Canon Rumor: Canon EOS M2 Set To Be Announced Soon?

Canon Rumor

According to digicame-info (translated) Canon could soon announce the Canon EOS M2, successor of the Canon EOS M.

The new EOS M2 should be available in three different kit configurations, i.e. a double and a triple lens kit in addition to the kit with the EF-M 18-55mm IS STM. It is unclear if there will also be new EF-M lenses. Unfortunately no information about the specs, except that there will be a black and a white version of the EOS M2.

But there is also a potentially bad news: the rumor suggests that the EOS M2 will not feature Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS Auto-Focus technology. I can hardly believe that.

Canon Rumor: EOS M2 Delayed to Early 2014

EOS M2

We were already informed that the successor of the Canon EOS M, aptly named EOS M2, would not been announced this year. Getting closer to X-Mas without an announcement seems to confirm it.

A new rumor surfaced, and once more it says: no EOS M2 before early 2014. The reason is unknown, but the rumor states that Canon planned to release the EOS M2 at the end of Summer 2013 (August-September). Why they delayed the announcement is unknown.

No more information about the specs either. Just this: the EOS M2 should sport the excellent sensor (with Dual Pixel AF) of the EOS 70D, i.e. a 20MP sensor. Finally, while the EOS M2 is said to be quite similar to the EOS M, it will be smaller than the EOS M and have a better AF (necessarily, if it features the 70D sensor)

That there will be an EOS M2 is sure – the model mark already showed up in DPP’s documentation, and that the announcement of the EOS M2 will be one of the first Canon announcements (if not the first) in 2014 has been confirmed also by various of my sources. So folks: no new Canon mirrorless for the holidays, but one at the beginning of next year.

Canon EOS M2 Leaks in DPP Documentation

The Canon EOS M

Could this mean we will soon see an announcement? Hopefully. A user of the dpreview forum downloaded the latest version of DPP and found what follows:

Checking under the help section on Lighting Optimizer and look what is found:

If the shooting result is dark or the contrast is low, you can use the Auto Lighting Optimizer function to auto-correct the brightness and contrast, and obtain a more pleasant image. You can also change the settings of the image shot with the camera’s Auto Lighting Optimizer function. This function is compatible only with RAW images shot with EOS-1D X, EOS-1D C, EOS-1D Mark IV, EOS 5D Mark III, EOS 5D Mark II, EOS 6D, EOS 7D, EOS 70D, EOS 60D, EOS 50D, EOS REBEL T5i/700D, EOS REBEL SL1/100D, EOS REBEL T4i/650D, EOS REBEL T3i/600D, EOS REBEL T2i/550D, EOS REBEL T1i/500D, EOS REBEL T3/1100D, EOS M2 and EOS M.

Not much fantasy with the naming but definitely a new EOS M on the way. :)
