New EOS M10 Digital Camera Puts Imaging Power And Convenience Into The Hands Of The Social Media Generation

Compact Addition to the EOS M-Series of Cameras Is Flexible, Stylish and Fun With an Emphasis on Connectivity

MELVILLE, N.Y., October 13, 2015 – For capturing and sharing life’s important moments with great clarity, Canon U.S.A. Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced the EOS M10 interchangeable lens digital camera. A compact and stylish design, the EOS M10 camera has the features and lens options to help photographers expand their creativity and the mobile compatibility and size for social-sharers to stay connected with sharp images that are sure to draw ‘Likes’.

Adding to its compact design, the EOS M10 camera is fitted with a new retractable EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens, that shortens and locks into a compact size when not in use. This retractable Canon interchangeable lens provides outstanding image quality that helps the EOS M10 camera remain small and lightweight to go with you anywhere.

For those “selfie” moments that can’t be missed, the EOS M10 camera’s three-inch screen tilts up 180 degrees to help make sure everyone is in the shot. The touch panel LCD screen also lets users browse images and navigate menus with ease. The camera’s Creative Assist mode makes it easy to adjust settings and add effects such as brightness, background blur, vividness of color, contrast, warmth and filter effects to create share-worthy images on the go – letting you stylize your photos and capture the moment just as you want. And, to help everyone look their selfie-best, the Self Portrait mode adjusts camera effects and settings to enhance skin smoothness and brightness.

“This is the camera for the social media generation, including those who love to take and share high-quality photos and video while on the go. It will help them make the transition to a dedicated, high-quality digital camera, because of its mobile compatibility and creative options,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO, Canon U.S.A., Inc.

The built-in Near Field Communication (NFC) functionality of the EOS M10 camera is compatible with most current Android™devices** for easy setup of Wi-Fi® communication, and the camera’s Mobile Device Connect Button supports wireless connectivity with IOS® and Android™ devices. The EOS M10 camera also supports wireless remote control featuring live view in compatible Apple® and Android devices using Canon’s free Camera Connect app***, available through the Apple App Store and Google Play™ store.

The EOS M10 camera is fully compatible with Canon’s Connect Station CS100, a home hub device that provides a fast and easy way to store photos and videos from the camera as well as view them on the living room TV, transfer them to social media networks and share them with other linked Connect Station CS100 devices, for an added level of sharing.

Canon EOS M10 shows up at Canon Direct Store

EOS M10

The new Canon EOS M10 is listed at the Canon Direct Store. The M10 is available as kit with the EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens. Three color options will go on sale, black, white, and grey.

The Power of an EOS Camera, Simplified

Step up to EOS camera quality in a simple and easy-to-use package! The EOS M10 camera combines a lightweight, compact design with the power and image quality EOS cameras are known for along with the versatility of interchangeable lenses. Inside is an 18.0 Megapixel CMOS (APS-C) sensor that’s paired with the DIGIC 6 Image Processor to help capture colorful, detailed videos and photos, even in low-light situations. To help expand creative opportunities, the EOS M10 is compatible with a wide range of compact EF-M lenses specially designed for EOS M series digital cameras, and the extensive range of EF* and EF-S* lenses used with Canon’s DSLR cameras. It also has easy-to-use and automatic settings like the innovative Creative Assist to simplify photo adjustments and help ensure your images are how you want them. Self Portrait mode extends that assistance to help you grab great selfies by adjusting settings that smooth skin tones and artistically blur backgrounds. If it’s too dark for a normal photo, a built-in pop-up flash lights up dark spaces. All these powerful features combine to make the EOS M10 worthy of your attention, while being conveniently wrapped in a slim, stylish camera.

Legendary Image Quality in the Palm of Your Hand
The EOS M10 camera features a lightweight, comfortably designed body that’s easy to hold and take with you. From overseas vacations to backyard family gatherings, the EOS M10’s compact size means it can easily be on hand, without getting in the way. A built-in thumb grip also lets you grasp the body securely, while the rounded edges make holding the camera easier when recording long video clips. All this while still featuring the image quality for which Canon EOS cameras are so well known.

Superb Detail With Minimal Noise
The 18.0 Megapixel CMOS sensor captures lots of detail with very little image noise. The sensor itself is APS-C type, which is the same size as the sensor found in Canon’s EOS Rebel series of cameras. The high resolution means you can crop the image to focus on one section, or have enough detail to print large photos to display or give to your family and friends. An ISO range of 100–12800 (expandable to 25600) lets you capture images on bright sunny beaches and darkened streets.

Fast Focus
Life happens fast, and there’s little worse than missing out on capturing that perfect moment because the camera was too slow to focus. The EOS M10 camera uses Canon’s Hybrid CMOS AF II autofocus system, which measures up to 49 different points in an image quickly and accurately to help get it in focus. In addition, face detection and object tracking help keep the subject of your photo focused, even if they move. What’s more, the EOS M10 is compatible with all EF-M lenses, which feature an AF+MF mode that lets you easily combine the speed of autofocus with the creative flourish possible with manual focus.

Get the Shot You Want, at Any Angle
It’s vital to see if you’ve composed the photo you want. The EOS M10 camera’s 3.0-inch touch screen has 1.04 million pixels, letting you preview images in high detail. It can pivot a full 180°, meaning you can capture a unique dog’s-eye-view of the world or flip the screen up to get that epic selfie.

Superb Moviemaking Made Easy
The EOS M10 camera can capture 1920×1080 Full HD video at frame rates of both 24p and 30p, and can record in MP4 format for easy sharing online.

Moviemaking Made Easy with Manual Movie Control
The EOS M10 camera is a fine moviemaking tool. With touch-activated AF and a number of manual controls available, it’s easy to make intuitive setting adjustments silently and on the fly using the EOS M10’s dials and touch operations.

More Canon EOS M10 and EF-M 15-45mm IS STM images leaked (M10 has tiltable screen, lens is retractable)

EOS M10

More images of the upcoming Canon EOS M10 and EF-M 15-45mm IS STM lens have leaked at Digicame Info.

The EOS M10 has a tiltable screen, despite being incredibly small. Could the EOS M10 be the smallest APS-C mirrorless camera in the industry?

canon_ef-m15-45_b_001

The EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens has a very compact design, and it is retractable, as we anticipated here on Canon Watch. If you look at the pictures of the lens, you can see the switch to release the lens (same as on the EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM). You can also see that the 15-45mm IS STM has a plastic mount.

There are very few controls on the M10, so it will be operated mainly through the touch interface. While the EOS M10 is definitely an entry-level MILC, it seems to be an interesting piece of gear. Incredibly small and compact, with a tiltable screen, coming with a new super-compact kit lens. WiFi and NFC also seem to be on board. Not the enthusiast-oriented mirrorless camera we hope to see one day, but still: kudos Canon!

Announcement very soon. Stay tuned…

The Baby EOS M is the EOS M10, specs leaked

Specifications of the upcoming entry-level EOS M camera leaked at Digicame Info. The “baby M” is the Canon EOS M10. The specs:

  • 18MP APS-C sensor
  • Size 108 x 66.6 x 35mm
  • Weight 301g
  • 3″ monitor with 1.04M pixels
  • Hybrid CMOS AF III with face recognition and tracking
  • Comes as kit with the EF-M 15-45mm IS STM lens
  • Comes as double kit with the EF-M 15-45mm IS STM and EF-M 55-200mm
  • Approximately same size as EOS M2

The price for the double kit will be $849.99, the EF-M 15-45mm IS STM will sell at $299.99.

Two things to note: 1) the moniker EOS M10 suggests a new mirrorless line-up by Canon (entry-level line-up), 2) this is not the old Canon 18MP sensor of a few years ago. This is a new 18MP since it features Hybrid CMOS AF III.

I expect the announcement to happen very soon, possibly tomorrow. Stay tuned…
