Ideal Autofocus Lens with High Usability

This first EF mount autofocus lens from Samyang encapsulates the brand’s universally respected optical technology, especially in the wide angle lens category. From a total of 15 lenses in 10 groups, 7 special optic lenses have been chosen in the production of this lens, to maximise the image quality. The use of 2 aspherical lenses, 4 high-refractive lenses, and 1 extra-low dispersion lens minimises distortion and various aberrations while producing crystal clear resolution. The remarkably even image quality from centre to corner of the wide 116.6 degree angle of view appears distinctly on its MTF chart.

The minimised weight and movement of the focusing lens group enables quiet and pleasant autofocusing with high accuracy. This compact Samyang AF 14mm F2.8 EF weighs only 485g without lens caps and hood and is the best travel partner to capture unforgettable moments on your journey. Weather-sealing and a built-in AF/MF switch increase usability.

Nortlight Images posted an interesting review about the Samyang/Rokinon 12mm f/2.8 ED AS IF NCS UMC Fisheye Lens for Canon, a pretty interesting manual focus lens at an affordable price.

In the conclusion the reviewer writes:

From an image quality point of view I’ve very little to quibble about. The lens is robustly constructed and the addition of the padded bag for it most welcome.

The f/2.8 lens gives a nice bright image in my viewfinder, although manually stopping the lens down and not having any aperture information (Canon EF) may cause some difficulties if you are not used to manual lenses.

Going to f/5.6 was enough to sharpen up the edges of the frame a bit, and gives me so much depth of field that the only reason to check the focus settings was to make sure I’d not nudged the focus when changing aperture or vice versa. Read the review…

Samyang AF 50mm for Sony FE mount

French photography site Focus Numerique interviewed Mr. Jeong Min Shin, head of product planning at Samyang. Korean manufacturer Samyang is now committed to produce AF lenses for Canon and Nikon mounts, Mr. Jeong Min Shin says:

We started the implementation of an autofocus optical FE [lens] and we are adapting to of other mounts, like Canon and Nikon. We also believe in Fujifilm and Micro 4/3, but these markets are not very important.

Until now Samyang makes two AF lenses, a 50mm f/1.4 and a 14mm f/2.8, both for the Sony FE mount. According to the interview, Samyang will adapt existing AF lenses for the Sony FE system to Canon and Nikon m0unts.

Samyang lenses are known for their very good optical performance and for the affordable price, with the compromise that you have to focus manually on a Canon DSLR.
