Is the Sony A7RII ready for the pros? Matt Granger tries to answer

Matt Granger on YouTube posted a video where he tries to answer the question if the Sony Alpha a7RII is made for professional photographers. The answer is long, is of the kind “it depends”, and tends toward a “not really”. Matt Granger is definitely a pro-Sony reviewer.

Can we say that Canon/Nikon make cameras for photographers, and that Sony makes cameras for engineers? As much as I like the innovative technology featured on Sony’s a7-series full-frame mirrorless cameras, I still have a hard time to see the Sony a7RII as a “real camera”. I can not see the strong commitment to photograhy I feel with other brands. Fuji for instance, with their excellent X-T10 and X-T1, made (mirrorless) gear really aimed at photographers. Just my 2 cents.

Canon EOS M3 video-review

TheCameraStoreTV on YouTube posted their review about the Canon EOS M3, Canon’s enthusiast-oriented mirrorless offering which was announced to the USA a few months ago. TCSTV usually isn’t very Canon-friendly, but this time they “are impressed” by the EOS M3 (for a good reason, it’s a great camera). They really appear to like the EOS M3 (our M3 review).

Canon really made everything right with the EOS M3. From the button layout over the touch-interface to the image quality: nothing to complain on the EOS M3. I love mine, it’s always in my bag. Have something to say about the EOS M3? Go to our We Shoot EOS M forum.

Impressive Canon ultra-high ISO full-frame sensor footage shot in complete darkness

Canon EXPO Paris posted a video showcasing the impressive performance of Canon’s prototype ISO 4.5M full-frame sensor. The Canon ME20F-SH camera is used to film glowworms in Waitomo Glowworm Caves in New Zealand. The glowworms are normally not visible to the humans eye. A comparison with a Canon professional HD camera is made (at 1:32, possibly Canon XA25), and the difference gets you an idea about how impressing the Canon ME20F-SH performance is. The professional HD camera sees only a light fluorescence when set to the highest gain (30db) while the ME20F-SH is able to get a clear image. It gets even more impressing. At 2:13 the ME20F-SH is used to shoot the glowworms in complete darkness. The video ends with video footage of the milky way
