Here we have a wonderful example of copycat rumor. Read on.

A new rumor by Camera Insider claims Canon will release four prime lenses for the RF mount in 2024, these:

  • RF14mm F1.4L USM
  • RF24mm F1.4 L IS USM
  • RF28mm F1.4 L IS USM
  • RF35mm F1.4 L IS USM

The funny thing, this rumor is almost exactly the photocopy of another rumor posted almost one year ago by Canon Rumors (which, btw, never became true).

It’s very easy to understand what’s going on here. The listed lenses have a high likelihood to be released, sooner or later, for the mere fact that they are present in each and every lens lineup. It’s certain that Canon will release them. So why not suggesting they will get announced in 2023, then 2024, and if still not here, let’s suggest 2025. Easy peasy, isn’t it?

I do not. It’s just another educated speculation about what mighty and secretive Canon might do in the future.

Rumor has it that Canon is set to announce an RF 400mm f/4 DO IS lens “some time in 2024”:

[…] Canon will once again bring a DO branded lens to the RF mount, in the form of an RF 400mm f/4 DO IS USM. The lens is coming some time in 2024, and will continue to improve on Canon’s DO lens designs.

So, next month’s rumors about the RF 400MM F/4 DO IS will likely be about not having or indeed having the DO (Diffractive Optics). Boring.

Go out snapping photos, it’s better ;-)

It is rumored to get announced on November 2, 2023, and here are some possible specifications.

Here are the alleged Canon RF 200-800mm F6.3-9 IS specifications:

  • November 2, 2023
  • Compatible with RF teleconverters
  • Focus drive method is unknown
  • Not L series
  • It is unlikely that it will be dustproof and splashproof.
  • White
  • Equipped with DO lens
  • Possibly 300-800mm
  • Extending zoom structure

I like the timing with which some rumors are spread to the world. First we had the suggestion that Canon might release a new inexpensive telephoto lens next week. Now there is more. Read on.

A new rumor has it, that Canon might announce three new RF lenses on November, 2, 2024. Says the source of the rumor about the three lenses:

  • Canon RF 200-800mm f/6.3-9 IS (Still no word on whether it’s USM or STM)
  • Canon RF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM
  • The third lens is one of three that we have been told are coming “soon”, but we haven’t confirmed which one will come on November 2.

So maybe three lenses , maybe not. If the rumor is true, expect to see leaked images very soon.

Spend your time with actual photography, and less with rumors ;-)

It seems Canon is set to announce a new inexpensive telephoto lens, the Canon RF 200-800mm f/6.3-9 IS.

This is going to be a non-L lens, i.e. a consumer lens. Despite that, it is rumored that the lens will come with white painting, usually reserved for Canon’s top tier telephoto lenses. And there is more: the lens is rumored to feature DO elements (diffractive optics). Given that we are talking about a non-L lens, that seems to be a bit of a stretch. Pricing of the RF 200-800mm f/6.3-9 IS is rumored to be above $2000, although not by much.

There have been a few patent applications that might refer to this lens.
