New Canon EF 24-105 F4L IS lens coming with EOS 5D Mark IV, rumor suggests [CW3]

ef 24-105mm F4L IS

A new rumor suggests Canon will announce a replacement for the venerable Canon EF 24-105mm F4L IS USM lens.

The Canon EF 24-105mm F4L IS Mark II is expected to be announced before Photokina 2016, together with the upcoming Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, also expected to be announced in August 2016.

The [shoplink 230]Canon EF 24-105mm F4L IS USM[/shoplink] was announced in 2004, a new version is entirely plausible. The EF 24-105mm F4L IS was the typical kit lens for Canon’s full-frame DSLRs.

A few days ago, we had a possible leak of an image of the EOS 5D Mark IV. The picture was posted on Instagram and soon after it was removed.

Stay tuned for more!

Replacement for Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM non-L lens coming in August? [CW4]

EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM

New reports suggest Canon will soon announce a new version of the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM lens.

No specs are available for the time being, nor is the price which I guess will be below $500. The announcement is expected for August 2016. I think this rumor is pretty solid.

The [shoplink 153]EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM[/shoplink] that’s going to replace has these specs:

  • EF Mount Lens
  • Aperture Range: f/4-45
  • Ultra-Low Dispersion Elements
  • Two Mode Optical Image Stabilization
  • Ultrasonic Autofocus Motor
  • Circular Aperture Diaphragm
  • Zoom Ring Lock Lever
  • Super Spectra Lens Coating
  • Minimum Focus Distance: 4.9′
  • 58mm Filter Thread Diameter

Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III set to be announced next month? [CW4]

EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II

New reports suggest the replacement for the highly regarded [shoplink 246]EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM[/shoplink] lens may be announced in June 2016.

The upcoming Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III will for sure top the lens it replaces. Quoting the source of the rumor:

A person who has used the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III says it’s every bit as good as the recent L offerings from Canon and “solves the most glaring weaknesses of the current version.”

I think this rumor has a high probability to be reliable. Stay tuned…

Canon EF-M 35mm f/1.8 STM lens coming Summer 2016? [CW3]

Canon EF-M 32mm f/1.4 STM EF-M 22mm canon lenses

I’ve been told (thanks) that Canon will announce a EF-M 35mm f/1.8 STM lens during Summer or late Summer 2016, in any case before Photokina 2016.

Unfortunately, I got no specs about the EF-M 35mm f/1.8 STM lens. It’s not the first time such a lens is rumored. I think there will be new lenses for the [shoplink 6091]EOS M[/shoplink] system in 2016 (something Canon itself stated), and a 35mm f/1.8 appears to be a pretty likely choice.

On an APS-C sensor a 35mm lens is equivalent to a 56mm lens on full-frame (Canon’s APS-C sensors have a crop factor of 1.6). 50-55mm is a very classic focal lenght that should be available for every camera system. For the time being there is only one prime lens for the EOS M system, the [shoplink 6093]EF-M 22mm f/2 STM[/shoplink] (equiv. 35mm). If Canon has to make one and only one additional prime lens for the [shoplink 29518]EOS M system[/shoplink], then it will be a 35mm lens.

In the meantime we are waiting for the EF-M 28mm Macro lens that leaked last week. Stay tuned…
