It is said that the next “L” lens Canon will announce will the replacement for the EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS. No specs so far. The new EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM

Canon Rumors got word that Canon is working on a new f/2.8 ultra wide zoom. The news came in shortly after the announcement of the EF 16-35mm f/4L IS ($1,199, pre-order at B&H Photo | Adorama).

The rumored lens is said to be wider than 16mm, speculations go for a 12-24mm or 14-24mm lens. It was also suggested that this lens will not be announced any time soon, and that it may be announced within 6 months of a prosumer high-res DSLR.

Next Canon Announcement To Come Soon: Canon Powershot SX60 HS IS

Powershot SX60 HS IS

Canon Powershot SX50 HS IS

I just got an email from a known source saying; stay ready for the next announcement it will be the Powershot SX60 HS IS.

Unfortunately there were no specs sent in by the source, and I doubt that the specs pointing out a 60x zoom I got the last time are accurate. Other rumors suggest a 100x zoom, and there is a patent leading in this direction. A zoom beyond 60x seems plausible to me. I am still sure the Powershot SX60 HS IS will be announced before summer 2014.

Just a small rumor saying the Powershot SX60 HS IS will be announced soon. Nothing more. For the time being.

Canon Rumors got word that Canon may announce new tilt-shift lenses for Photokina 2014.

Both the Canon TS-E 90mm f/2.8 and TS-E 45mm f/2.8 are murmured to get replaced. And the possibility of a third tilt-shift lens (no hints here) is also in the air. The 90mm and 45mm are pretty old lenses, a replacement is not implausible. The lenses should be announced for Photokina 2014.

Some more speculation are going on about a Canon macro tilt-shift lens.

Samyang Working On Another AE Lens And Will Cut Stock For Other Brand Names

DicaHub (translated) has more information about Samyang’s upcoming plans. After yesterday’s announcement of a 35mm f/1.4 lens with automatic exposure for Canon mount (among other lenses), the big question is if Samyang will make more lenses with AE contacts.

According to DicaHub’s interview with Samyang, the Korean lens manufacturer is working on another lens with AE contacts. Most probably for Canon mount (but that’s not clearly stated in the interview). The rumors point to a 85mm f/1.4 AE lens. No hints about when  Samyang may announce the next AE lens.

There is another interesting thing that comes out of the interview. When asked about the many names Samyang uses to brand their lenses, they answered that they recognise the issue and plan to gradually cut stock availability for the other brand names. With one exception: Rokinon. It appears that Rokinon is a major brand name for Samyang, and hence will remain for the time being. Sounds logic to me. Samyang lenses are available with the following brand names: , , , , , , .
