Canon Mirrorless System Camera to be announced in May?

Canon Mirrorless Camera Concept by D. Riesenberg

I got this information from a source (thank you!). It says that Canon will showcase the upcoming mirrorless ILC to selected customers in Australia during PMA Australia at the end of May. The new camera should then be announced in June. That Canon is working on a mirrorless ILC is given for sure. Canon just released its First Quarter Earning Call, and you can find some hints concerning those plans there. Canon…

[…] will further differentiate and enhance [its] lineup by launching new cameras offering the image qualities that approaches SLR cameras; furthering the improvement in design and qualities, and by incorporating features such as network, connectivity capabilities.

Looks like the upcoming mirrorless system camera could have WiFi connectivity (let’s hope so!). I reported the probable specs of Canon’s upcoming mirrorless system camera in a previous post. Here they are again:

  • Two Cameras
  • G1 X Sensor Size
  • APS-C a possibility in one camera
  • 14 & 24 megapixels
  • EF compatibility, but not EF mount.
  • EVF on one camera
  • 3-5 Lenses announced at launch.

Stay tuned! In the meantime, have a look to Canon’s one and only attempt to get into the 4/3 market – the PowerShot G1 X, which can be yours . Or check the continuously updated live-ticker below for possible G1 X bargains:

Latest Canon Mirrorless Rumor

canonrumors summed up what’s murmured about Canon’s upcoming mirrorless ILC projects to be announced in 2012 (think Photokina). Something will come for sure, since you can’t hardly believe that the PowerShot G1 X (click here for a cool G1 X deal) is the only answer Canon was able to give to the raising mirrorless system camera phenomenon. That’s what’s said we can can expect by Canon in the next months.

Canon Rumors Round-Up (T4i/650D, new AF, entry level FF, 7D Mark II)

canonrumors once more is saying that the Rebel T4i/EOS 650D will be announced by Canon very soon. Nothing new on the specs front, but a new auto-focus system is named. Could this be in relation with the Canon AF patent I reported about?? I was the only one to report about this patent. Now rumors say that the T4i/650D will sport a new AF system for video. However, based on what I understood from the patent, it would make perfectly sense for video recording. The T4i/650D is also said to have a touchscreen. I am very curious. Read more after the break.

Canon stopping EOS 5D Mark III shipment (?) – UPDATE

UPDATE 5: thedigitalpicture is reporting that Canon USA will not stop shipment of the EOS 5D Mark III. No sources are named.

UPDATE 4: This was posted in the clubsnap forum and then reported by canonrumors, apparently the answer of Canon Singapore to a concerned customer: With reference to your question on whether Canon Singapore will recall the EOS 5D MK III due to the light leak issue, we wish to inform you that we will not. However we will contact you later this month to rectify this issue. Please leave us your contact number for our Service team to contact you.

UPDATE 3: Things are getting worse. Canon France, asked by focus-numerique (Google translated), says that: Canon states that all cases seem to be unaffected and that ultimately the problem is marginal. For now, the 5D Mark III deliveries are slowed in France in order to check current inventory. The distribution is expected to resume a normal pace in the month of May.

UPDATE 2: Adorama, Amazon and B&H all have the out of stock and available only for pre-order. Don’t know if this is related to the supposed hardware problems of the Mark III, but at least it is a strange coincidence. Quoting Adorama: This item is currently out of stock and on backorder. Please note: You can order this now and have us ship it as soon as it arrives. We will not charge your card for any backordered items, until it is ready to actually ship.

UPDATE: Changed the title since techradar is reportingCanon UK has said that shipping of the 5D Mark III has temporarily stopped while it investigates problems with the top LCD causing exposure issues. Following techradar, the Canon UK spokesperson could not say when shipping will resume.
