New speculations about Canon’s next announcement dates (EOS 5D Mark IV, 6D Mark II, M4)

canon rumors

Some new suggestions about Canon’s next announcements surfaced on the web.

  • Canon EOS 5D Mark IV: announcement in August 2016, Release in September/October.
  • Canon EOS M (High end model): announcement in October 2016, Release in November/December.
  • Canon EOS 6D Mark II: announcement in February 2017, release in March/April.
  • Canon EOS M4: announcement in February 2017, release in March/April

Please note that some of the dates listed above have been adjusted around four or five times. The only announcement date that’s a safe bet is the EOS 5D Mark IV date. It’s very likely the EOS 5D Mark IV will be announced late Summer 2016, ready for Photokina in September. This got confirmed from my sources. The other dates are better taken with a grain and of salt, though an announcement of the EOS 6D Mark II in 2017 starts to appear to be likely.

It’s also suggested that the EOS 6D Mark II might have the same sensor resolution as the EOS 5D Mark IV, i.e. 24MP. We got somewhat different information and we are trying to learn more.

Canon prosumer mirrorless camera eventually coming in 2016? [CW2]

EOS M3

New bits about Canon’s mirrorless plans surface on the web. The rumor suggests there will be two Canon mirrorless cameras set to be announced in 2016. One should be the replacement for the EOS M3, the other one may be the fabled full-frame mirrorless camera many of us would like to see.

The EOS M3 replacement is said to come with the sensor of the Canon EOS 80D and to have some minor ergonomic changes. The other, the full-frame mirrorless camera, is said to be “prosumer-oriented”, and to feature a newly designed 24MP sensor. And it should be possible to use EF lenses.

Finally, there may also be new EF-M lenses set to come.

This rumor strongly recalls an interview with Masaya Maeda of last year.

Meyer Optik Görlitz teases new lens, first sample pic surfaces

Meyer Optik Görlitz

German company Meyer Optik Görlitz is teasing a new lens launch. The lens will be announced on April 14 at 11am London time.

Thanks to our friends at Sony Alpha Rumors, we have what likely is the first leaked sample picture shot with this upcoming lens. It’s the image below, shot by photographer Firat Bagdu.

Meyer Optik Görlitz

The look of the new Meyer Optik Görlitz lens is historic but the internal lens design is new. This will be Meyer’s most technologically advanced lens. It’s also near-macro glass. Rumor has it the specs are the same of one of the historic Meyer Optik lenses. You may take a guess wich of the following Meyer lenses resembles the upcpoming lens most:

The lens will be available with Canon, Nikon, MFT, Fuji, and Leica mount. Stay tuned…

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV – previously leaked specs get confirmed, and a price suggestion

Eos 5d Mark Iv

Everyone appears to be desperately trying to get his hands on some fresh Canon EOS 5D Mark IV rumors. Understandable, since the EOS 5D Mark IV will likely be the hottest camera of 2016.

Some of the specs previously leaked first here on Canon Watch got another rehash and found their way to the web. Latest murmurings has it that the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV will feature 4K (as we wrote in July 2014), GPS and WiFi, and a touchscreen. All things you should already know if you follow CW. However, there is a new bit of information: the price. The EOS 5D Mark IV is suggested to go to market at $3,500, which is exactly the price tag the EOS 5D Mark III had at launch.

I think this specs are reliable. They also make sense from a pure common sense point of view. The rumored announcement date is still late Summer 2016, in time for Photokina 2016.

Canon EF 200-600mm f/4.5-5.6 IS “not L” lens coming in Summer 2016? [CW2]

Tamron SP 150-600mm

A rumor about a possible Canon EF 200-600mm f/4.5-5.6 IS lens appeared on the web. The lens is said to be not an “L” lens, and to have an indicative price of $1,700. A “budget lens”, so to say.

The EF 200-600mm f/4.5-5.6 IS would compete with Sigma’s and Tamron’s super-zoom offerings. Moreover, an external dedicated teleconverter may also be announced. A patent for an optical formula referring to a 200-600mm lens was spotted last year.

Take it with a grain of salt.

A new Canon 50mm lens coming? [CW3]

Ef 50mm F/1.2

Canon is rumored to announce soon a new 50mm lens. The question is: what kind of 50mm lens, and which of the Canon 50mm lenses will get replaced?

Canon currently has three 50mm lenses on offer: the EF 50mm f/1.8 STM (introduced recently, replaced the EF 50mm f/1.8), the EF 50mm f/1.4 (introduced over 30 years ago), and the EF 50mm f/1.2L.

The rumor suggests that despite what you may think, it might not be the EF 50mm f/1.4 that gets replaced but the EF 50mm f/1.2L (released in 2001). Honestly, I do not know which one may get replaced. The EF 50mm f/1.4 appears to be the obvious candidate but anything is possible, especially since Sigma introduced their outstanding 50mm f/1.4 lens. It may also be possible that Canon will feature STM or Nano USM technology on a new 50mm lens.

Stay tuned…
