Canon EOS 5D Mark IV tested in the field (?), and yet another mention of 4K [CW3]

New murmurings surfaced on the Internet suggest the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV is undergoing field-tests by select photographers. That’s likely if we take the August announcement as pretty certain (I do).

The rumor also mentions the EOS 5D Mark IV will have 4K (leaked first here on CW in 2014), and 1080p video at 120 fps. While the possibility of 4K wasn’t taken seriously at the beginning, despite we insisted on it, now it appears people can’t get enough about posting that the EOS 5D Mark IV will feature 4K. Yeah, it will. Definitely.

Please be aware that it is still very early for reliable EOS 5D Mark IV specs. Since Canon has become extremely secretive some years ago, we do not get anything reliable until a few weeks before the announcement. For the time being we can’t even be sure about the sensor resolution. 24MP is what rumors suggest. However, I am pretty sceptical about this resolution, and have been told that the EOS 5D Mark IV will have a higher resolution, possibly 28MP.

Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III set to be announced next month? [CW4]

New reports suggest the replacement for the highly regarded EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM lens may be announced in June 2016.

The upcoming Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III will for sure top the lens it replaces. Quoting the source of the rumor:

A person who has used the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III says it’s every bit as good as the recent L offerings from Canon and “solves the most glaring weaknesses of the current version.”

I think this rumor has a high probability to be reliable. Stay tuned…

This so called rumor was posted to a forum 3 days ago and has now been picked up and pushed to be an EOS 5D Mark IV rumor. It’s not reliable in my humble opinion.

The forum entry says:

I’ve just had a friend of mine (who works for Canon) suggest that although they’ve had no “official” info, his Rep said the 5d4 will be at photokina this year and he hinted at 32mp with 24mp mode. He hadn’t heard anything about a new battery though.

In my experience it never happened that a forum entry turned out to say something reliable about an upcoming product.

I wouldn’t normally post such stuff but it’s making the rounds since some sites picked it up and unfortunately are pushing it as rumor. Sorry guys, it’s nothing to write home about.

The Canon EOS 5D Mark IV is expected to be announced in August (ready for Photokina) and to be available in October. We should soon have some reliable leaks and maybe even some pics. Stay tuned on Canon Watch to know more.

Price increases for Canon gear coming June 2016, up to 12%? [CW4]

I’ve been told by a good source that starting June 1, 2016 there will be a price increase on select Canon imaging products.

Effective of 1st June there will be a general price increase by 2.7% on all imaging products, with some exceptions. Six mid-range DSLR models will see an increase between 6% and 11.5%, and 38 lenses will increase between 11% and 12.7%.

Why Canon is increasing prices wasn’t told to me. I guess it has to do with financial results, or weak Yen, or whatever. Stay tuned, and do not miss the select deals I post here on CW.
