Confirmed: Canon EOS 5D Mark IV will have Dual Pixel Auto-Focus

Canon Rumorscanon rumors

More and more bits about the upcoming Canon EOS 5D Mark IV flock in.

We have been told (thanks) that the EOS 5D Mark IV will have Dual Pixel AF on board. This is in all truth a feature we expected and that doesn’t come as a surprise. It also was rumored in the past.

It’s two weeks to the announcement and we still know very little about the specifications of the EOS 5D Mark IV. An alleged, pretty blurry picture of what could be the EOS 5D Mark IV surfaced yesterday (update: it’s a fake).

I listed what we can expect to be announced by Canon on August 25/26 in the post below.

What to expect to be announced by Canon before Photokina 2016 (EOS 5D Mark IV and more)

New Canon EOS 5D Mark IV resolution speculation (and poll) [CW3] – Updated with link to image

EOS 5D Mark IV

Canon Rumors

Update #2: I am pretty sure the image linked below is a fake.

Update: an alleged, blurry image of the EOS 5D Mark IV showed up at DPReview forum.

Are these some of the EOS 5D Mark IV specifications? May be, and also not.

As you can see in the list below, 30MP is now the new rumored resolution of the EOS 5D Mark IV imaging sensor. These specs have been posted on a site that until recently had always pushed 24MP as the resolution-to-be of the EOS 5D Mark IV. On the other hand, I have always been told that the EOS 5D Mark IV will come with 28MP.

Since the 24MP rumor has been abandoned, it’s appears to be a bet between 28MP and 30MP. Given Canon’s recent secrecy I wouldn’t be surprised if neither of us got it right. Moreover, it seems there are no longer any doubts that the EOS 5D Mark IV will have 4K on board, something we leaked first (2 years ago).

  • 30mp
  • Compact Flash/SD Card Slots (No CFast)
  • 24/30fps @ 4K
  • 60fps @ 1080
  • 120fps @ 720

  • A lot more touchscreen functionality than the EOS-1D X Mark II
  • Other ergonomic changes, such as a new “locking switch” on the rear of the camera.

In any case, 30MP are in the realm of possible. Stay tuned for more, it’s something over 2 weeks until the announcement. All EOS 5D Mark IV rumors are here.

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV rumored to go at $3,299 body only, coming with 2 kits? [CW4]

Canon Rumorscanon rumors

The latest Canon EOS 5D Mark IV murmurings have it that the replacement for the [shoplink 2431]EOS 5D Mark III[/shoplink] will start at a lower introducing price than its sibling did, $3,299 vs $3,499 of the 5D3.

We also know that the EOS 5D Mark IV will be announced with two kit variations, one with the well known [shoplink 8251]Canon EF 24-70mm f/4L IS[/shoplink], and the other with the recently leaked EF 24-105mm f/4L IS Mark II lens.

Canon is expected to announce the EOS 5D Mark IV, along with other gear, on August 25/26. So far we have no reliable information about the specifications of the EOS 5D Mark IV. But it’s a matter of a bit more than two weeks to the announcement.

Stay tuned…!

Canon W-E1 WiFi adapter to sell for less than $40? [CW3]

Canon w-e1

We (thanks) and others have been told that the upcoming Canon W-E1 WiFi adapter for SD card slots will sell for less than $40 in the US, and around €45 in EU. That’s all we know so far, along with some W-E1 specifications. The W-E1 is very small and lightweight, coming at 24 x 32 x 2.1 mm (around 0.94 x 41.26 x 0.08 inches) and weighting just 2 grams (0.04 oz). That’s the size of an SD memory card. The W-E1 will work on many Canon DSLRs.

There will be an important announcement by Canon on August 25/26. It’s not only about the highly anticipated EOS 5D Mark IV, there is more gear coming. I made a list of what Canon is likely and less likely to announce at the end of August.

Stay tuned!

What to expect to be announced by Canon before Photokina 2016 (EOS 5D Mark IV and more)

eos 5d mark iveos 5d mark iv

It’s not just about the EOS 5D Mark IV. We are getting closer to the most important Canon announcement of the year so I thought it would be a good idea to sum up what we can expect Canon to announce. I give different ratings. The most likely date for EOS 5D Mark IV and other announcements is August 25 or August 26.

Announcements set for the end of August:

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV (all rumors). Likely the most anticipated DSLR of the year and still no reliable specs. Will it have 24MP or 28MP? First EOS 5D Mark IV product page already showed up – [CW5]

Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS Mark II. Said to be the new kit lens for the EOS 5D Mark IV. Still no specifications. Product page showed up on the Internet – [CW5]

Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III. This lens too will be announced soon. A product page showed up. No specs – [CW5]

Canon W-E1 WiFi adapter. This has just leaked a few days ago. Canon will enter the market with their own WiFi adapter for SD card slots – [CW5]

Announcements that are less likely:

Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM. Not sure what to think about this. There have been rumors about a replacement for the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS but I always thought the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS was the lens that replaced the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS – [CW3]

A prosumer Canon EOS M body. This is becoming the white unicorn. No reliable information, just speculation and a lot of wishful thinking. Let’s give it a [CW3]

New EF-M lenses for the EOS M system. There are patents, and rumors. We also have reason to believe that Canon started to take their EOS M system seriously. There will be more EF-M lenses, I am just not sure if we will see those lenses in 2016 – [CW3]

It’s barely 3 weeks until the day we expect Canon to make their announcements. Stay tuned, we will soon know some specifications.
