Venus Optics will soon announce a new lens, the Laowa 12mm f/2.8. The announcement is expected for July 30, 2016. The lens comes in various mounts, Canon included.

Laowa 12mm f/2.8 specifications:

  • Optical formula: 16 elements, including 2 aspherical elements and 3 elements made of glass with anomalous dispersion, in 10 groups
  • Number of aperture blades : 7
  • Aperture range: f/2.8 – f/22

  • Maximum magnification: 0.2x
  • Maximum diameter: 74.8mm

Update: Another mention of Canon EOS 5D Mark IV announcement at the end of August (25/26) [CW4]

Update: Some very blurry images of a supposed Canon EOS 5D Mark IV camera have been posted at Northlight Images.

This morning (in EU, last night in US) we reported a rumor suggesting the highly anticipated Canon EOS 5D Mark IV will most likely be announced on August 26. Now another announcement date leaked on the web, August 25. The one day difference may be because of different geographic areas: 8/25 in North America, 8/26 in Europe. Given two different mentions on practically the same date I upgrade the rumor to CW4.

So, the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV is finally coming. Stay tuned!

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV announcement coming last week of August 2016? [CW3]

It appears Canon is set to announce (thanks) the highly anticipated yet not leaked EOS 5D Mark IV towards the end of August. Makes sense since Photokina is happening at the end of September, and most of those in the industry believe the EOS 5D Mark IV will be on display during the show. New source but at least a plausible suggestion. The candidate dates I’ve been told are, in order of likelihood: 26 August, 22 August, and 29 August.

Prices for Canon gear set to raise by 20% in Europe after August 2016 [CW4]

This comes from a very solid source. I have been told (thanks) that prices for Canon gear in Europe will get higher after August 2016. I got no side-infos about that but according to my source it is due to the weak Euro (and Pound, both compared to the Euro). The rumor is backed up by EU and UK retailers I contacted. The expected price increase will be around 20%.

A new Canon camera has been registered at Indonesian Certification Authority (is this the EOS 5D Mark IV?)

A Canon camera has been registered at Indonesian Certification Authority Postel, reports Digicame-Info. It says:

  • Equipment: Digital camera
  • Model name: Canon DS126601
  • Manufacturing: Japan
  • Date: July 1, 2016

The registration can be found on the web, though no detailed information can be accessed.

Canon DS126601 doesn’t tell us much. However, according to another bit of leaked information, this camera will have WiFi and GPS on board. We see it in the registration for the same camera at Taiwan NCC (National Communications Commission, picture below).

And that’s all we have. Now the big question is: is this the upcoming Canon EOS 5D Mark IV? If we believe in an announcement before Photokina 2016 (September 2016), as most rumors suggest, then this may well be a reference to the EOS 5D Mark IV. All EOS 5D Mark IV rumors are listed here. Concerning the EOS 5D Mark IV specifications, so far nothing beyond speculation (though plausible) has surfaced.

I’ve been told (thanks) that the Canon EOS C100 Mark III is set to feature 4K video. The C100 Mark III is scheduled to be announced for or just before Photokina 2016 in September, and will come along with other new Canon Cinema EOS products.

The whole Canon Cinema line-up saw solid price drops in the last weeks (see here and here). This too suggests Canon may have some new stuff ready to get announced.
