What to expect to be announced by Canon before Photokina 2016 (EOS 5D Mark IV and more)

It’s not just about the EOS 5D Mark IV. We are getting closer to the most important Canon announcement of the year so I thought it would be a good idea to sum up what we can expect Canon to announce. I give different ratings. The most likely date for EOS 5D Mark IV and other announcements is August 25 or August 26.

Announcements set for the end of August:

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV (all rumors). Likely the most anticipated DSLR of the year and still no reliable specs. Will it have 24MP or 28MP? First EOS 5D Mark IV product page already showed up – [CW5]

Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS Mark II. Said to be the new kit lens for the EOS 5D Mark IV. Still no specifications. Product page showed up on the Internet – [CW5]

Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III. This lens too will be announced soon. A product page showed up. No specs – [CW5]

Canon W-E1 WiFi adapter. This has just leaked a few days ago. Canon will enter the market with their own WiFi adapter for SD card slots – [CW5]

Announcements that are less likely:

Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM. Not sure what to think about this. There have been rumors about a replacement for the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS but I always thought the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS was the lens that replaced the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS – [CW3]

A prosumer Canon EOS M body. This is becoming the white unicorn. No reliable information, just speculation and a lot of wishful thinking. Let’s give it a [CW3]

New EF-M lenses for the EOS M system. There are patents, and rumors. We also have reason to believe that Canon started to take their EOS M system seriously. There will be more EF-M lenses, I am just not sure if we will see those lenses in 2016 – [CW3]

It’s barely 3 weeks until the day we expect Canon to make their announcements. Stay tuned, we will soon know some specifications.

Canon to announce WiFi adapter W-E1 for SD card slot

It appears Canon will soon announce the Canon W-E1 WiFi adapter. According to a specification sheet leaked at Digicame-Info, the W-E1 is very small and lightweight, coming at 24 x 32 x 2.1 mm (around 0.94 x 41.26 x 0.08 inches) and weighting just 2 grams (0.04 oz). That’s the size of an SD memory card. Safe to assume Canon is entering the market with it’s own WiFi adapter for SD card slots

UPDATE: the page has been removed.

It seems DigitalRev wants to be first when the pre-order game for new gear will start. After the EOS 5D Mark IV and EF 24-105mm f/4.0L IS Mark II product pages, also the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L Mark III product page went online. As with the other two, there are no specs nor pictures.

All this gear will soon be announced, most likely August 25/26, 2016. Click here to see all EF 16-35mm f/2.8L Mark III rumors.

UPDATE: the page has been removed.

Edit: changed post title since it was a bit misleading. They do not accept pre-order right now.

Still not sure that the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV may be announced soon? Change your mind.

The announcement is expected for August 25/26. But well known online retailer DigitalRev already has a dedicated product page for the EOS 5D Mark IV, though without any specs or pictures. However, if you want to be among the first to get this highly anticipated camera, you can register to be notified as soon as pre-orders are available (just click the orange “Notify Me” button”).

We know very little about specs so far. The most rumored sensor resolution is either 24MP or 28MP. It will likely feature WiFi and GPS, Dual Pixel AF is also likely, as is a new AF system. We will soon know more.

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV coming with 28MP sensor? [CW3]

canon rumorscanon rumors

Amongst all those unreliable if not faked Canon EOS 5D Mark IV rumors, we have another one to add.

Our sources always told us the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV will have a 28MP sensor. We just got another mention on this sensor resolution (thanks), though from a new source.

Other rumors suggest a 24MP resolution, the latest murmurings talk 30MP (which I don’t consider anything to be taken seriously).

Be aware that so far there are no reliable leaks on the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV. The only thing you really can count on is an announcement at the end of August  (so it gets ready for Photokina in September). Hence, for the time being keep the salt at hand. Given Canon’s newly developed secrecy, the first reliable information will show up just a few weeks before the announcement.
