thanks dicahub.com

If you were waiting for something earthshaking to be announced yesterday, you will be disappointed.

It seems Canon Hong Kong announced the availability of the Canon Powershot G1X Mark II [shoplink 19768](price & specs)[/shoplink] in Hong Kong and China, nothing else. It’s not uncommon for Canon to announce their gear on a regional basis after it was announced world-wide.

The Canon Powershot G1 X II has been officially announced February 12th, and can be pre-ordered for $799 at Amazon | B&H Photo | Adorama. Availability: May 2014.

The user manual for the new Canon Powershot G1X Mark II can be downloaded here.

Confluence – A Documentary Shot in Idaho By Philip Bloom Using Canon EOS 7D and 5D Mark II

The above 53 minutes documentary was shot by Philip Bloom using a Canon EOS 7D [shoplink 337](price & specs)[/shoplink] and EOS 5D Mark II [shoplink 254](price & specs)[/shoplink] some time ago. Now it is free to view for anyone.

About the documentary:

The Lewiston / Clarkston valley has a rich history. It is here, at the confluence of the Clearwater and Snake Rivers, where Lewis and Clark camped on their westward journey over two hundred years ago. Residents boast that the valley is the gateway to Hells Canyon, that Lewiston was Idaho’s first capital. However, the valley also has a much darker past, one that many know about, but few publicly acknowledge. From 1979 to 1982, five people disappeared. Only three of the bodies have ever been found. All share one suspect.

I drove thru this beautiful valley last year while crossing the USA. I was invited by friends in Idaho, and I took this route to join them.

Canon press release:

Canon celebrates 20th straight year of Technical Image Press Association awards with wins for camera products and technology

TOKYO, April 23, 2014—Three Canon camera products and one Canon technology were recognized with “Best Photo and Imaging Product” awards by the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA), representing 29 photo and imaging magazines from 16 countries across five continents. The four award-winners are: the EOS 70D digital SLR (DSLR) camera, the PowerShot G1 X Mark II digital compact camera, the EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x super-telephoto zoom lens, and Dual Pixel CMOS autofocusing technology.

Best DSLR Advanced: EOS 70D

Named “Best DSLR Advanced” by the TIPA jury, the Canon EOS 70D features an APS-C-size approximately 20.2-megapixel CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 5+ image processor, making possible a fast continuous shooting speed of up to approximately 7 frames per second and a maximum standard ISO of 12800,1 which can be extended up to ISO 25600. The camera is also equipped with a 19-point all cross-type AF system. Earning special praise, however, was the EOS 70D’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF, which the judges called a “breakthrough.” The innovative autofocusing technology makes possible improved tracking capabilities when shooting video to ensure smooth focusing performance similar to that achieved by video camcorders, and fast autofocusing performance when capturing stills during Live View shooting. Other features mentioned by the TIPA jury were the camera’s Vari-angle touch-screen 3.0-inch Clear View LCD monitor II, which offers approximately 1.04-million-dot resolution, and built-in Wi-Fi, which allows image-sharing via CANON iMAGE GATEWAY as well as the transfer and saving of images to a smartphone using the EOS Remote application.2
