New Canon EF Lenses 101 Video: Tilt-Shift Lenses

CanonUSA on Youtube posted a new video of their ongoing series “Canon EF lenses 101”. This video is about tilt-shift lenses. As usual, the host is Matt Kloskowski.

Tilt-shift lenses are most popular for architectural photography because it helps to correct the leaning effect we see in photos of tall objects like buildings and walls. Photographer and educator Matt Kloskowski gives some tips on architectural and landscape use of Canon tilt-shift lenses.

Samyang Working On Another AE Lens And Will Cut Stock For Other Brand Names

DicaHub (translated) has more information about Samyang’s upcoming plans. After yesterday’s announcement of a 35mm f/1.4 lens with automatic exposure for Canon mount (among other lenses), the big question is if Samyang will make more lenses with AE contacts.

According to DicaHub’s interview with Samyang, the Korean lens manufacturer is working on another lens with AE contacts. Most probably for Canon mount (but that’s not clearly stated in the interview). The rumors point to a 85mm f/1.4 AE lens. No hints about when  Samyang may announce the next AE lens.

There is another interesting thing that comes out of the interview. When asked about the many names Samyang uses to brand their lenses, they answered that they recognise the issue and plan to gradually cut stock availability for the other brand names. With one exception: Rokinon. It appears that Rokinon is a major brand name for Samyang, and hence will remain for the time being. Sounds logic to me. Samyang lenses are available with the following brand names: [shoplink 19633 ebay]Samyang[/shoplink], [shoplink 19635 ebay]Walimex[/shoplink], [shoplink 19636 ebay]Rokinon[/shoplink], [shoplink 19637 ebay]Opteka[/shoplink], [shoplink 19638 ebay]Falcon[/shoplink], [shoplink 19639 ebay]Vivitar[/shoplink], [shoplink 19640 ebay]Bower[/shoplink].

Canon Working On A New Generation Of Full-Frame Sensors?

Full-Frame Sensors

A new rumor surfaced on the web. CR reports that Canon is working on a new full-frame sensor generation planned for mirrorless and DSLR cameras.

This new sensor generation is said to have lower production costs, and to be easier to produce too. It was also suggested this sensors could  be based on a technology similar to Foveon.

I have no information about this new sensor technology, but in December 2013 I got a rumor that Canon is working on the “biggest change” in their history. Can’t say if it has to do with the rumor reported here. As usual, keep the salt ready.

However, we saw a patent in the past that suggest Canon may working on such a sensor technology.
