Which Lenses are Best for Your Canon EOS 70D? Ask DxOMark

EOS 70D

After part 1 (STM lenses) of their recommendation of about which lenses best fit on your new Canon EOS 70D, DxOMark published part 2, related to primes and zooms. On top of their ranking there are the amazing Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM (price & specs) and Sigma 85mm F1.4 EX DG HSM (price & specs). They are followed a bunch of Canon primes, among others the EF 35mm f/2 IS and the EF 85mm f 1.2L II USM. First ranking among the zoom lenses is (no wonder) the awesome Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM followed by Canon’s EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM. Click here to see all rankings.

Canon EOS 70D Reviewed by ephotozine

EOS 70D

Canon EOS 70D
B&H Photo, Adorama, Amazon USA, Amazon Canada, Canon Canada, Canon USA

More and more Canon EOS 70D reviews show up. This time it is UK based ephotozine to provide a review. They outline the excellent colours and image quality, very good battery life (920 shots, although if not using live view, which consumes more battery), AF micro-adjustement, the robust body, and obviously the Dual Pixel CMOS AF (among other outstanding features). An excerpt from the conclusion:

For videographers the 70D with touch screen control over focus point will be extremely appealing, and the microphone socket is useful, although no doubt some will wish for a headphone socket as well. For those that are looking for a true Digital SLR with an optical viewfinder, combined with very good live view, and excellent video focus (with STM lenses), the Canon EOS 70D delivers, whilst also delivering that all important Canon feature: High Image Quality. The Canon EOS 70D delivers excellent colour and has almost everything you could wish for in a Digital SLR.

But the EOS 70D is impressive also if you are just interested in shooting stills. I want one soon! :-)

More Hints That Canon Could Soon Announce the Next EOS M (two of them)

Canon Deals

More cues that we could soon see a/two new Canon EOS M camera(s). The latest rumor suggests that Canon could announce an entry level and a more feature-rich EOS M body at the same time. The more pro oriented body should be available with some interesting accessories, as an EVF and a new flash. The basic model is said to come with more color options as the actual EOS M and to have a concretely lower price tag. Hints that these rumors are solid are also given by the fact that more and more shops lists the EOS M as discontinued. FInally, there should be a new telephoto lens for the EOS M system.

I have been told (and am pretty sure) that Canon will announce the new EOS M before X-Mas- Stay tuned.

B&H still has some EOS M kits and all are heavily discounted, same for Amazon.

Another Sign That the Next Canon EOS M Could Soon Be Announced

Now also B&H lists the Canon EOS M kit with the EF-M 22mm f/2 STM lens as discontinued. It appears more every week more obvious that stocks are emptied. Adorama does no longer have any EOS M kit available, while B&H still has some EOS M kits and all are heavily discounted, same for Amazon.

The latest related rumor suggests there will be at least one new EOS M system before X-Mas.

Canon EF-M 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens Analysed by DxOMark

DxOMark published their in-depth analysis of the Canon EF-M 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens (price & specs), one of the three available lenses for the Canon EOS M system (price & specs). The EF-M 18-55mm scores a good 13 points, figures for distortion, vignetting and chromatic aberration are very good as is the sharpness of this relatively inexpensive lens ($199).

Tested against the competition – i.e. the Sony E 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 and the Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12-50mm f3.5-6.3 EZ – the EF-M 18-55mm still scores very good and gets one more point.

I guess the EF-M 22mm f/2 STM (price & specs) and the awesome EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM (price & specs) will also soon been analysed by DxOMark.

The Canon EOS M kit with the EF-M 18-55mm f/3.4-5.6 IS STM is on fire sale at Amazon for $327.99 (click here), the kit with the super sharp EF-M 22mm f/2 STM pancake for $399 (click here).
