How To Get Accurate Colors in Difficult Light Using a Filter (White Balance)

White Balance

You all know the following situation: difficult light settings confuse the white-balance of your camera and you’ve to use a grey card to calibrate the WB. Not a big issue but prone to errors and sometimes uncomfortable (think rain). Another way to get the WB right in such settings is to use a filter on top of your lens that acts as a neutral diffusion filter that passes 18% of the ambient light to the cameras light meter. What you have is a grey frame you can comfortably use to calibrate the WB.

Adorama has the ExpoImaging ExpoDisc Digital White Balance filters all 50% off the regular price, starting from $34.99 for the 52mm filter up to 52.49 for the 82mm filter.

Another Great Lens for an Affordable Price – Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS Price Unveiled ($899)

Sigma 24-105mm f/4

Eventually Sigma announced the price of its recently announced 24-105mm f/4 DG OS lens (“Art” line-up) to the world: $899. And it is once more (after the 18-35mm f/1.8) a price for the masses, for a lens that hopefully will deliver the same awesome properties of the 18-35mm f/1.8 [shoplink 14551](price & specs)[/shoplink]. The 24-105mm is interesting also because there are (non confirmed) rumours floating around saying that Canon may discontinue the [shoplink 230]Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM (price & specs)[/shoplink]. The Sigma has image stabilisation, the Canon not.

Egami (translated) spotted Canon patents for three lenses that could been thought for the EOS M mirrorless system, a 5omm f/1.8, 50mm f/1.4 and 35mm f/1.4. Egami’s analysis of the patents suggests this interpretation, i.e. that these lenses are made for an APS-C mirrorless system. Sound exciting, having such primes for the EOS M would at least allow us to think that Canon is committed to their mirrorless system. More details and specs after the break.

Canon Hot DealsCanon Hot Deals

Uh, it’s deals time since a few days. May this be the Sony full-frame mirrorless effect? Fact is, Canon’s full-frame gear is consistently discounted since some days. And I am not talking just about eBay deals. The major, authorized Canon dealers are as well discounting the 5D3 and 6D.

Let us start with authorised Canon reseller B&H. They have some pretty interesting deals live (in addition to these 5D3 deals), all come with the accessories displayed in the pics above and get a MIR rebate.

  • This is hot: Canon EOS 6D body only and SanDisk 16GB SDHC Memory CardCanon 200DG Deluxe Gadget Bag,Oben ACM-2400 4-Section Aluminum Monopod, and aWatson LP-E6 extra Battery for $1573 (click here). No mail-in rebate, just $1573 that show up after check-out.

Not bad, eh? These are good times to get a Canon full-frame DSLR, or the awesome EOS 70D with Dual Pixel AF. I bought my 70D w/ 18-135mm for shy of $1200 with no printer, memory card and bag.
