Canon EF 24-70mm f/4L review by Photographic Central

Nothing is more satisfying than using a lens like this in real life. Practically speaking, handling is superb- the lens design will not frustrate you when relying on it counts the most. Image stabilization is very effective if you prefer to rely on it. If you don’t mind a constant f/4 aperture like me, you should try one out, but  just be prepared to part with your money. This lens has consistently put a smile on my face, before, during, and after the exposure process.

Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD G2 Review (Photography Blog)

The new Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD G2 is a versatile walk-around lens with a fast maximum aperture that consistently delivers great images. It’s very sharp throughout most of the zoom and aperture range, even at the edges of the frame, with sharpness only falling off a little shooting wide open at f/2.8. The new SP 24-70mm G2 also produces very nice bokeh effects thanks to the 9-blade iris diaphragm, although there’s some very obvious vignetting and some barrel distortion at 24mm, plus slight pincushioning at 70mm. Overall, though, there’s little to complain about in the image quality department.

Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM Review (Photography Blog)

Despite the fact that the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 IS II USM lens is not an “L” series lens, it is still capable of producing excellent images.

Thanks to its relatively small size and light weight, it would make an ideal companion for photographers who want to have a long telephoto length in their bag, perhaps while travelling, or on shoots that involve a lot of walking.

It’s ideally suited to subjects such as wildlife and sport, but as it has a versatile focal length, you could also use it for other subjects such as portraits and still-life shots, making it a good all-round option that you could potentially get a lot of use out of.

Canon’s full frame mirrorless camera might have a dedicated sensor [CW3]

canon rumorscanon rumors
Still nothing sure about Canon’s upcoming full frame mirrorless camera. Just a bit suggesting Canon will use a sensor developed specifically for their full frame mirrorless camera. No EOS 6D Mark II or 5D Mark IV sensor.

The suggestion  seems to come from an internal presentation at Canon. The announcement Canon’s full frame mirrorless camera might happen at Fall 2018.

EOS M1 is rumored to be the moniker of Canon’s full frame MILC.

We know Nikon is now seriously committed to mirrorless, let’s hope Canon eventually does the same.

These are the tidbits about Canon’s full frame mirrorless camera, these:

  • Dedicated full frame CMOS sensor
  • Different sources and sites were reporting that early prototypes exist, at least to be tested inside Canon’s labs. This intel came in 2016 and early 2017.
  • Canon is possibly working on a full-frame mirrorless camera with EF mount. There have been rumors saying that Canon is delaying this camera because of issues in implementing the EF mount. There is a lot of talk about this. If Canon manages to engineer a full-frame mirrorless camera with EF mount, thus allowing us to use our beloved EF lenses on a smaller and hopefully performing body, it will be a winner. Imagine what you could do with a MILC that goes along with your EF lenses. There is serious a chance we may see this.
  • The latest bit of info I got suggests Canon will announce a full-frame mirrorless camera with a sensor having a resolution of 36-38MP.
  • A possible announcement date is around Photokina 2018, which happens in September.

Stay tuned

Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III rumored specifications update [CW4]

powershot g1 x mark iii

A new, updated specification list for the PowerShot G1 X Mark III emerged from the web.

  • 24.2mp APS-C Sensor
  • DIGIC 7
  • 24-70mm f/2.8-5.6 (35mm equivalent)
  • Dynamic IS
  • Touch AF
  • Dust & water resistant
  • OLED Electronic View Finder (EVF)

We already knew the PowerShot G1 X Mark III was going to have an 24MP APS-C sensor. The 24-70mm lens makes perfectly sense. The EVF is a welcome feature. If this specs get confirmed it will be a well rounded small camera with fixed lens and a large sensor. I add to the list above that the G1 X Mark III will also have Dual Pixel AF.

It was about time for Canon to beef up the PowerShot line-up. Previous rumors suggested more upcoming PowerShot G-series cameras might have an APS-C sensor. At the time of writing I would be a bit cautious with that. Likely the top of the line PowerShot G1 X Mark III might be the only new PowerShot with an APS-C sensor.

Stay tuned…

Canon EOS 7D Mark III specification wishlist surfaces [CW1]

eos 7d mark iii
EOS 7D Mark III coming with a 30MP sensor? (Image: EOS 7D Mark II)

A list of supposed Canon EOS 7D Mark III specifications makes the rounds on the web. Please note. Though being credited to us, we have nothing to do with this list.

The specification list below is more of a wishlist, and I am not sure all specs would be possible. We posted a tidbit about the EOS 7D Mark III sensor, murmured to have a resolution around 30MP, and that it will most likely have 4K video (we did not say anything about crop factor). All the rest was added and does not come from us.

  • 30MP sensor
  • 4K video/30p 1.4x
  • 12 fps
  • No AA filter
  • 1D X Mark II focusing
  • Tilting touch screen
  • CFast/SD
  • Built-in Wi-Fi
  • Price around $2,000

While some things make sense and are plausible (12fps, tilting screen, WiFi), others do not.

The EOS 7D Mark III is expected to be announced next year. No exact announcement date is known so far, though you can think it may happen somewhen in summer.
