Canon EOS 7D Mark III to feature 28MP sensor? (and more specs) [CW2]

canon rumorscanon eos 7d mark iii

A few weeks ago we were tipped about the EOS 7D Mark III. We have now a new rumor we got from a new source.

The rumor suggests that the EOS 7D Mark III will

  • feature a newly developed 28MP sensor
  • be in general more video-oriented
  • have 4K video
  • have a tiltable touch-screen
  • be more upscale than the EOS 7D Mark II
  • have a richer feature set compared to the 7D Mark II
  • introduce a new Canon APS-C image sensor generation
  • have the same introductory price as the EOS 7D Mark II

Still nothing neither particularly exciting nor really surprising (it’s still too early). The most interesting point is the one stating the EOS 7D Mark III will “introduce a new Canon APS-C sensor generation”, and that it will have 28MP (previously we were tipped with 30MP).

If this rumor is reliable, then we may think that all upcoming Canon APS-C cameras will have new sensor technology with 28MP resolution. Sound plausible at least. The [shoplink 22664]EOS 7D Mark II[/shoplink] has a 20MP sensor.

The EOS 7D Mark III might be announced in Summer 2018, though we do not have any reliable information so far.

Please take this with a grain of salt, sound off in the comment section, and stay tuned.

Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Art Lens Review (ePHOTOzine)

Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8

Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG HSM ART at a glance:

  • EF-Mount Lens/Full-Frame Format
  • Aperture Range: f/2.8 to f/22
  • Three SLD and Four Aspherical Elements
  • Super Multi-Layer Coating
  • Hyper Sonic AF Motor, Manual Override
  • Optical Stabilizer
  • Rounded 9-Blade Diaphragm
  • TSC Material, Brass Bayonet Mount
  • Compatible with Sigma USB Dock

Another review for a highly interesting lens, made by Sigma. It’s the new Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Art. The Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 is gathering a lot of attention, giving a great level of performance for the bucks.

There is little not to like of the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 ART lens. The reviewer at ePHOTOzine praises well controlled chromatic abberration and distortions, the sharpness and the smooth bokeh. From the conclusion:

This is a very attractive proposition for full frame users. A reasonable cost, a sound general performance, gorgeous bokeh and the potential for portrait shooting, low distortion, in fact, a variety of positive aspects that make for a quality end result. It’s a pity the weather resistance isn’t a bit stronger and the weaker performance at 70mm will not suit everyone, but even this may well delight others as the portrait and perhaps flower study potential is very real. Overall, recommended. Read the review…

I do not own the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8. I just played along with it for a day and I have to say my impression has been very good. At $1,299 it’s also sensibly less expensive than Canon’s counterpart.

Carl Garrard of Photographic Central is a photographer who does reviews from a user’s point of view. This time we feature his Canon EOS 80D review, a Canon mid-range DSLR announced in 2016 which still is one of the most powerful APS-C gear Canon has in offer (I consider the EOS 80D to be more advanced than the EOS 7D Mark II, despite the latter being more pro-oriented).

From Carl’s conclusion:

[…] the 80D was one of Canon’s answers to criticism of their in house semi conductor division, and I believe that most users who purchase or use the 80D will think so too. Canon have a reputation for taking well calculated, progressive steps in designing their cameras. If Canon are good at one thing, it’s that they do not abandon or alienate their user base that they have earned over the years. Canon cannot be everything to everyone, and no camera company can. But they do appeal to the widest range of photographers more than any other company for a reason.

Canon’s EOS 80D represents an excellent overall value for its user base, and makes a statement about Canon’s dedication to them. For those not wanting pro level gear, the 80D may be a very good choice as an overall device that can handle a wide range of tasks and do them remarkably well in most circumstances. While the 80D isn’t a personal favorite of mine to use, I found it to be well worthy of recommending to other readers who use DLRS here because of its incredible versatility, well rounded feature set, and competent capability overall.

It may not be the best performer in any single category, but as a whole, its hard to find another camera in its price range that would be more pleasant and capable to use. And that’s the key really, real life use. When shopping for a camera you can compare specs all day, but until you use it,  you won’t know if you really like it or not. Pick one up and try it out for yourself, if you are in the market. Read Carl Garrard’s review…

As a happy owner of an EOS 80D (the camera I use most) I certainly agree.
