Images of the upcoming Canon EF 70-300mm IS II USM and EF-M 18-150mm IS STM lenses leaked at Nokishita. Both lenses are expected tp be announced on September 15th, along with the Canon EOS M5.
As you can see, the Canon EF 70-300mm IS II features a LCD display.
Authorised Canon retailer Adorama has two highly regarded Canon lenses as “open box” deals.
The Canon EF 11-24mm f/4L is on sale at $2,499 (compare at $2,999), and the Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS is on sale at $909 (compare at $999). Both come with 1 year Canon warranty.
Samyang announced a new “Premium” lens line-up with two full-frame lenses. A 85mm f/1.2 and 14mm f/2.4 lens are the first two lenses of the new “Premium” line.
Both are manual focus lenses but have electronic aperture control. Samyang said these lenses can outresolve 50MP sensors and are fit for 8K resolution. The 85mm f/1.2 lens will be available for Canon EF mount only, the 14mm f/2.4 lens will be available for other mounts too.
A member of Chinese forum mobile01 claims to know the US prices of the upcoming Canon EOS M5 mirrorless camera. The weird thing: it’s suggested you get a $100 discount if you pre-order the EOS M5.
However, as weird as the rumor may be, here it is:
M5 body only $899, pre-order $799
M5 with EF-M 15-45 mm lens $1,098, pre-order $998
M5 with EF-M 18-150mm lens $1,198, no pre-order discount
An introduction price of $899 for the EOS M5 is absolutely plausible. On the other hand, it’s hard to believe Canon will need to encourage sales for the EOS M5 with pre-order discounts, since this camera will sell like hot cakes at X-Mas.
Last week some reliable specifications leaked:

I wonder if such a discount was offered before. What do you think, are the discounts a hoax or the real thing?
Canon released new versions of their software utilities. Support for the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV and the EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM lens has been added to Digital Photo Professional 4.5.0 and to the rest of the suite.

As you can see most of the rumoured specs happened to be real, included Dual Pixel AF (we reported). Basically, this appears to be a [shoplink 37471]Canon EOS 80D[/shoplink] without the mirror etc. The Canon EOS M5 appears to be slightly smaller and a bit heavier than a Rebel.
And what about “5-axis electronic image stabilization“? This sounds very much like IBIS (In Body Image Stabilisation) to me. May the Canon EOS M5 have such a technology? Update: it has electronic IBIS.
Well, Canon eventually build the killer-MILC we were all waiting for. The fact that Dual Pixel AF is on board will make a huge difference. We expect Canon to announce the EOS M5 on September 15th. The EOS M5 will go on sale with the following options:
M5 body
M5 with EF-M 15-45mm kit
M5 with EF-M 18-150mm kit
So, what do you think? Is this the enthusiast-oriented Canon mirrorless camera that will destroy the competition? Sound off in the comment section…
