Here is the usual Canon disclaimer, always showing up after a product announcement. It will…
Remember the high resolution EOS R model that was supposed to be announced 3 years ago, then 2 years ago, then last year? Well, it seems you’ll have to wait yet longer.
There will no high resolution EOS R model in 2023, and very likely neither in 2024. Will it ever be released? The rumor site that was propagating the rumor now states:
Is there a high-resolution EOS R system camera coming?
As with any company such as Canon, there are products planned that never come to fruition, as there can be changes in the marketplace or other external challenges. By the sheer number of reports and conversations we’ve had, that may have been what happened here.[…] We have heard a couple of mentions about a higher resolution camera coming 6+ months after the EOS R5 Mark II, which we expect to be announced in Q1 of 2024. That would translate to a Q4 announcement.
Yeah, changes in marketplace, plus external challenges, whatever they are.
The truth is, they all have no idea, and syphon everything from Chinese social networks, like Weibo. That Canon might release a high resolution EOS R model is obviously possible, but it is also something that came out of the blue, for the mere fact that it is “likely”.
