Please note: I am not a professional lens reviewer/tester. In this post I write about my first impressions with the lens, in the next days (I am very busy these days) I will post test series shot at all apertures, so anyone can check image quality and other issues. Stay tuned.

When Canon announced the EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM last month I was surprised: rumors were suggesting primes and zooms for the EOS M, a ultra wide angle lens wasn’t expected. And I was happy since I love wide angle lenses. Luckily I was able to get a production copy of the third lens Canon made for the [shoplink 6091]EOS M system[/shoplink]. It is since then the lens I use more often on my EOS M, it is the funniest, but not the cheapest. The EF-M 11-22mm has a price tag of around €400 in Europe. If you follow Canon Watch you probably know that the EF-M 11-22mm will not be sold in the US (for the time being). If you live in the US your best bet to get this lens is DigitalRev. Canon EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM Lens in Stock at Amazon Germany

Amazon Germany has the new Canon EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens for the [shoplink 6091]EOS M[/shoplink] system in stock and ready to ship for €399 (click here). I am puzzled by the fact that Amazon US still is not even offering a pre-order option. And why the hell does the lens cost €50 more in France than in Germany? Looks like the EF-M 11-22mm will start to ship in Europe first. Canon Japan announced the release date for Canon’s third lens for the [shoplink 6091]EOS M[/shoplink] system, the wide-angle zoom 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens. It will be released to the public on July 11.

Good times for the so much criticised (not always for a good reason, imo) EOS M: the recently released firmware update countered the slow AF issue that were plaguing the EOS M since the beginning, and that yielded a lot of bad press. With firmware 2.0.2 the EOS M AF has become perfectly usable. Some videos that show the AF performance with firmware 2.0.2 on the 11-22mm are here.

dpreview updated their EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM first impression review. The 11-22mm is the third lens for the [shoplink 6091]Canon EOS M[/shoplink] system, the others being the [shoplink 6093]EF-M 22mm f/2 STM[/shoplink] and the [shoplink 6095]EF-M 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM[/shoplink]. About the EF-M 11-22mm they write:

The EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM is Canon’s third lens for its mirrorless EOS M camera, and adds a useful wideangle capability in a package that’s impressively compact – especially considering that it’s got optical image stabilisation too. Our initial feeling is that it’s a rather nice little lens that’s pretty well-built, and a good match for the EOS M.
