Another mention of 8K to be featured on the Canon EOS-1D C replacement (coming 2017) [CW3]

First time I got a rumor about a possible replacement for the Canon EOS-1D C was in January 2016. Now I got another suggestion (thanks) saying the next iteration of the EOS-1D C will have 8K.

Nothing to get particularly excited about. That the replacement for the EOS-1D C will have 8K on board is just plausible. The EOS-1D C featured 4K, its replacement will very likely feature 8K.

The EOS-1D C was announced in 2012 and released in 2013. The EOS-1D C was the first DSLR to meet the European Broadcasting Union HD Tier 1 requirements for use in HD broadcast production. And it is a highly regarded professional DLSR in this domain (and for professional still photography). The replacement will not push this further.

For the time being I can not confirm the replacement for the Canon EOS-1D C will be a EOS-1D C Mark II, nor do I have any other hint about specs and moniker.

Finally, many big retailers do not have the EOS-1D C in stock (Adorama, for instance). Among my trusted US retailers, only B&H has it in stock. Couldn’t find it even at the Canon Store. The interesting thing: B&H has the EOS-1D C on sale at $3,999. This is a killer price for this professional Cinema DSLR that started at $15,000 when announced in 2012, and was still close to $8,000 back in January 2016.

Another mention of 8K coming to Canon EOS C500 Mark II [CW4]

Some time ago we were first to report a rumor from a very good source, stating that Canon will feature 8K on the replacement for the Canon Cinema C500.

Today I got another confirmation that the Canon Cinema C500 replacement – likely to be named C500 Mark II – will indeed have 8K on board. Unfortunately that’s all I have, no other specs were passed over to me. The Canon C500 Mark II announcement is expected for NAB 2016 in April 2016.

Talking 8K: I got a suggestion that the replacement for the Canon EOS-1D C will also have 8K on board, though I expect this high-end Canon DSLR to be announced in 2017, while the C500 Mark II will be announced in 2016. As with the C500 Mark II, I think 8K on the EOS-1D C replacement is highly likely, if not totally plausible. Canon can’t miss the 8K train on their flagship products. In other words: it’s hard to imagine the C500 Mark II and EOS-1D C Mark II (if this will be the name) will come without 8K.

For the time being I can not confirm it will be named Canon EOS-1D C Mark II, nor do I have any other hint about specs and moniker.

An EOS-1D C replacement with 8K makes sense. The EOS-1D C was announced in 2012 and released in 2013. And it is a highly regarded professional DLSR in this domain (and for professional still photography). Something that reflects in the price, $8000. The EOS-1D C features 4K, so it’s likely that Canon will add 8K in its successor.

8K video means that every frame has a 33MP resolution. While this will have a great impact on the processing capabilities of your computer, it means also that new ways to make photography are coming. Just think you can shot an 8K video in a complex setting, and afterwards choose the frames you want to have as photos. Not bad, eh?
