Canon EOS 5Ds Mark II now rumored to be a 2019 affair

Eos 5ds R Mark Ii

As we always stated, the replacement for the Canon EOS 5Ds and 5Ds R is not going to be announced in 2018. It’s met likely an announcement we will see not earlier than 2019. No surprisingly, this is now making rounds on the web.

Some people is trying to suggest Canon’s prototype 120MP APS-H sensor (or some sensor built on it) may  find its way into the next EOS 5Ds. That’s crap. The EOS 5Ds Mark II will have a resolution bump, but neither an APS-H sensor nor 120MP.

Stay tuned.

First Canon EOS 5Ds R Mark II suggestions appear

Eos 5ds R Mark Ii

It was already murmured that a Canon EOS 5Ds/5Ds R replacement might come in 2018. Now some specifications appeared as well. It’s suggested that the two current 5Ds models will become one, and that working prototypes of the EOS 5Ds R Mark II are already undergoing testing.

Let’s see the specifications:

  • No low pass filter.
  • All new 60.1mp image sensor.
  • A new type of low megapixel mode.
  • 4K video (video is not a big part of the cameras design).
  • Identical body to the EOS 5D Mark IV.
  • Focus peaking present, may appear first on another DSLR.
  • Expect all the other features such as DPAF, Wifi, Touchscreen and GPS.

All in all a list of plausible specifications. That Canon will abbandon the 5Ds (with low pass filter) also makes sense. The EOS 5Ds R sold much better than its sibling with low pass filter.

The announcement may happen in Q3/Q4 2018, i.e. In over a year possibly.  Take this with a grain of salt.

“Pursuit” is storm chaser Mike Olbinski’s latest work (and it’s shot with Canon gear)

Mike olbinski

I featured previous works by Mike Olbinski, a talented videographer with a passion for chasing storms all over the United States.

PURSUIT (available in 4K and 8K) is Mike’s latest work. And it’s stunning and jawdropping, the way we are used by his movies. Writes Mike:

This past spring was a tough one. Supercell structure and beautiful tornadoes had been very hard to come by. In fact, the tornado in the opening of this film was the only good one I saw this entire year. I had been on the road longer than ever before. Driven more miles. I was away from my family for 12 straight days at one point, and when I got home, I had to tell them I was going back out 24 hours later for June 12th. It was just too good to pass up. It promised to be a day that I could get everything I had been hoping for this spring and I had no choice. My wife understood, even though I knew she wished I stayed home. And I wished it too

Blu-Ray discs are available here. The music is by Peter Nanasi. You can follow Mike Olbinski on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

Mike used two Canon 5DSR’s along with Canon 11-24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 135mm and Sigma Art 50mm lenses, and Manfrotto tripods. The final product was edited in Lightroom with LR Timelapse, After Effects and Premiere Pro.
